ByronBayChris Posted 22May, 2014 Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Of course, I hear the throngs chanting, it's a 911!!!!! I have not.driven it for 4 weeks and took the cover off today to take it out. Saw this Maybe a leaking seal in the reservoir.since the oil had time to settle? Thoughts and action plan? Is it ok to drive to a hoist? (btw my background is IT - the usual disclaimer)
Chris-p Posted 22May, 2014 Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Chris, have you had it looked at since you drove it to Byron after the rebuild? In so far as a general tighten up of bolts etc and oil change?
ByronBayChris Posted 22May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 No Chris, not yet It was due to go in July, but worth looking at now I guess. Thx

FlatSix Posted 22May, 2014 Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Did your right rear tyre get a coating of oil?
ByronBayChris Posted 22May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Did your right rear tyre get a coating of oil? A little. I placed a towel over the puddle to drive out so as to not get foot prints through the garage
Peter M Posted 22May, 2014 Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Right side of engine, Red fluid, To the rear of the rear wheel. Mmmmmmmm, I'd check the level in the power steering reservoir as my first port of call, just in case one of the hose clamps weren't tighten up after your recent head job work. Next, would be to check to see if the plastic fluid level sight gauge on your transmission is leaking/broken.

Deejay Posted 22May, 2014 Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Is it red ? Or is it the shiny reflection from the reflective centre strip or lights on the car. Either way, doesn't look like a great deal.
ByronBayChris Posted 22May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Looks red to my old eyes. Yes, red to me too. Will check the two items in the morning. Thanks guys - always know I will get a lead from somewhere

ByronBayChris Posted 22May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 22May, 2014 Did you scare it??? My 18month old boy started to take the car cover off - that would be enough to cause this leakage

Russ Posted 23May, 2014 Report Share Posted 23May, 2014 Power steering/ATF is red usually. The watery stuff will be run off from your evaporator in the AC system smell the oil and compare it to the smell of engine oil
Uncle Posted 23May, 2014 Report Share Posted 23May, 2014 ATF has a nasty burnt Garlic type taste. Engine oil is far more metalic tasting. Gearbox and diff oil have one of the worst tastes known to man. Agreed it looks Red to me so I'd look at the P/S.
ByronBayChris Posted 25May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 25May, 2014 Appears to be power steering fluid. Level is just at the bottom of the two lines. But, the burning oil smell he's disappeared..... Which is a good thing
