If you don't want to drill holes in your freshly painted lid, you could cut the pins off the badge and attach it with some good quality double sided foam tape.  Use the badge as a template for the tape, cutting slightly smaller than the perimeter.

I thought this was an SC badge but I'm probably wrong.

 

Whatever one I go for I won't be drilling anything. I've used a 3M double-sided foam in the past and it was great - very strong and didn't harm the paint.

Sierra Madre is a dangerous site. Shipping is pretty steep for a badge or two, especially with the current exchange rates.

I think I'll hold off and get a few bits in one go.
