Adelaide Motorsport Festival

I dropped into the festival today, and wasnt disappointed!

Big crowd, absolutely perfect weather, loads of amazing old, new and crazy creations which would have kept any petrol head happy.

Ofcourse,  I headed straight to where most of the Porsche's were, yet they were spread around the place a bit.

Highlight for me was hearing Gerhard Bergers old Ferrari and the Arrows 3 sear F1 cars again, yet track time was cut short today due to some problem on track. Senna's JPS F1 was there, yet an oil pressure problem sadly stopped that from venturing out.

Will upload some more pics later

This was my fave. He wouldnt swap for the 912 sadly

Loved this

This thing was bonkers out of the hairpin. It just squatted down and grunted out of the turn quicker than anything else. Big dollar twin plug apparently

This is a BRM Banshee. Only one in the world, and powered by 2 Suzuki Hayabusa engines. Looked incredible up close. Interior was Alcantara I think. For sale too, yet I'd hate to think what the price is!

I'm currently here too.  That number 91 black RSR is a very quick car.

Getting up close with the F1 cars is amazing, and hearing the Ferrari change down through the gears is incredible.  Although the driver was being very careful..  Read slow!!

There's some amazing machinery about the place and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Yeah, 91 is basically my perfect car. Owner told me the previous owner spent $70k on the engine! Stunning car

I pulled a hamstring (and getting worse!) after pushing a mates 356 replica when his clutch shat itself,  so I doubt I'll be going tomorrow now. Can hardly get off the bloody couch!

I went out to the nairne stage yesterday. I have to admit that from a spectators point of view it was hard to follow what was going on. A bunch of Ferraris and a heap of other cars came through at, in most cases,  a quite leisurely pace, with the occasional one giving it some. Then some of the same cars came through again going a bit quicker, as well as some that I didn't see on the previous lap. But I don't think all of the cars went past. I didn't see that Audi Quattro.

Deviation rd stage that lead into Nairne was canceled at the last minute due to a few locals complaining. There were a lot of spectators set up for an mornings entertainment that would have been piss off by the cars comming through at a slow pace. A lot of people at he Nairne mornning tea stop and a huge crowd at Stirling for the lunch stop. A $1M Ferrari with considerable damage was not a good sight.

Locals complaining? Why, because their precious serenity is interrupted, roads closed etc etc?

Seriously, WTF is wrong with these people?

Same as some of the motorsport festival attendees whinging because Senna's F1 car didnt run yesterday due to no oil pressure, and minimal laps today because it blew up (apparently). I heard 3 people sooking whilst the F1 cars were on the track yesterday saying it was all a waste of money going. $16 car park and $25 to get in. What more do they want? How much is it to go watch  bloody football game for the family?  What would happen if it rained like on Friday when they couldnt drive the F1 Ferrari through Adelaide to a street party? Oh the humanity!!!

Instead, why not be thankful to the owners of these iconic cars that spend their own cash for our entertainment,  plus the organisers who also chip in some cash and put the show on in the first place!

Does this happen in all states of Australia, or is it just here in SA where 2 arty, tree hugging morons whinge about motorsport, and 20,000 or more miss out?

Seriously, this state can be pathetic at times ( a lot) with its focus on the arts, closing inner city streets to set up cafés and bloody latte's.

Bring on next year, unless the 4 dickheads protest and have it stopped

I read something on social media where one cycling guy was complaining about the road closure in gouger street and described the targa participants as freeloaders.  WTF. I asked him how that was the case. As yet no reply.

I went down to the Anstey hill stage yesterday morning. Great collection of cars. Loved the Orange RSR and that Audi Quattro was awesome. It over took an SLR 5000 coming down into the corner we were at an amazing speed. I did see it on the side of the road in Inglewood about an hour later so maybe he broke something. I am definitely keen to finish my RSR rep build to enter next year.

I was due to run my GT3 at this event but it was having some work done so had two great days throwing a 930 round the track. Not as capable as the GT3 and not set up for the track in the slightest but my god what a load of fun it was! It's refreshing to be able to run a layout different from Mallala, let alone part of the F1 track as what has become a sizable event. Can see this one getting bigger by the year and can't wait to participate again next year.

Speaking with an SCC member at the end of today's running and he was saying they did not get great numbers for the top class of the classic rally. Let's hope that grows a bit next year as the word spreads as its an important event for Adelaide.

Despite my love affair with all things F1 since i was a child, and travelling to Adelaide just to see a real turbo F1, i have to say the highlight of the weekend was seeing the Audi in action.

It was nuts how fast it caught the car in front, how it pivoted on its axis when the handbrake was applied and then shot out of the hairpin like it was fired from a cannon.

Love the signatures on the bonnet too.  You would think he would have applied a clear coat!!

PS tried to attach a picture.... cannot do

Good question.  The gauges are aftermarket performance gauges, which i wouldn't think you would use if it was the real deal.  Why wouldn't you keep it original..  But it must run, otherwise why would it need gauges..!!

WOW Great weekend.

Good to see you both - another great branch of the PFA.

My car ran with great pace behind the tour leader in race escort. Unfortunately he had clutch problems on the second day so the tour follower took over in the latest WRX model. Said he would give us a spirited drive - but couldn't shake me off his tail as we left the others a bit behind. Ferrari group was ahead of us making a lot of noise through the countryside but a brand new Ferrari hit a rail then bank, driver OK but car will be a bit late for delivery to its new owner this week !

GP track events were great to watch - F1 cars, Bathurst big bangers, Early cars, Porsches, GT40, Bolwell, Corvette (sideways at the bottom of the straight), Atom, Ferraris etc. Fastest car on the track - Race GTR 35, until he hit oil from a blown engine and went sideways into the concrete barriers.

It was nice of Jim Richards to park in beside me for the display in his new Cayman GT4. We had a chat and he let me video the car inside and out, then signed my Classic Adelaide Cap.

Lots of other interesting stories to tell and will post photos later.

Cheers,Mark.

Mark I saw your car parked next to the GT4 but it didn't click that I was you! Saw another 944 with rear end damage. Actually it was cool to see some of the battle scars on the rally cars, including the 355 Challenge which the owner had jokingly put actual bandaids on.

The sprint was fantastic, I will definitely do it again next year. Would love to do the tour to, if they didn't overlap.
