944 S2 Exhaust

I have a 3 inch with a high flow cat and what I assume is the stock muffler on the end. Sounds pretty good and it's not too loud. If you can't find an aftermarket exhaust, you can get a local fabricator or exhaust shop to make you one.

I'm interested in hearing more comments about 944 exhaust options.

I have a stock 944 S2 which is lacking in the exhaust sound department.  I know it's only a 4 cyl, but I'm pretty sure there is room for improvement.

I've been listening to all the options on youtube and from what I have heard, I like the sound of the Magnaflow and would probably replace the cat with a modern high flow which I presume would help in breathing, maybe even improve the note a little as well?  Quoted $1100 for custom fab in stainless.

IMO, the Maxflow is not what I'm looking for, although I'm not 100% sure given I only have youtube clips to listen to, expecting a bad microphone could be giving me a false impression .

The Dansk sounds milder which isn't what I'm thinking would suit my driving needs.  It can be purchased from O/S and landed for $700AUD, bolt on.  The thing I do like about the Dansk is it looks like it runs the stock factory tip (oval shape and angled) which I would like to stay with if possible.

I see Cam Arnott fitted a Starr exhaust to his lovely 968 recently.....would like to know what muffler was used, what diameter, high flow cat?...... is Peter Starr a guru for custom work in Melb, what was the pricing like?

I'm waiting for a certain 944 I know of that is running a Dansk to come on line so I can go out and hear the exhaust note first hand rather than trawling through youtube.

If anyone's done a mod they're happy with, let us know what you're running and how it sounds.  Would be interested in hearing first hand if anyone in Melb has a Magnaflow or Dansk.

The Peter Starr set up on my 968 was about $2400 fitted from memory. It makes a great sound and I think from memory it also involved some sort of mod to the exhaust manifold itself but it was organised through Kane Hearn at Zuffenahus Classics and I'm not 100% sure of the specifics....

It was a full system, not just a muffler.

I've had two exhaust setups on my S2. The first was a high flow cat and a FlowMaster muffler. This muffler is tiny and borders on a straight through setup. It may have been ok for a track car but it was WAY too loud for the street. My house would shake when I started it up and it had horrible drone. I ended up removing it and having Custom Exhaust Specialists (CES) fabricate a new muffler in 304 stainless. The new muffler was much larger than the FlowMaster but it still sounds really nice in my opinion. It is reasonably quiet at low revs and has minimal drone compared to the FlowMaster. It has a nice deep tone to it, probably akin to a Magnaflow which I've had on a previous car. Sounds great in tunnels too!

That's interesting feedback on the Flowmaster Justin, droning is something I'd like to avoid.

As I've been considering the Magnaflow, also nice to hear you're happy with your custom job which sounds like it is similar to the Magnaflow.
