monty188 Posted 22March, 2016 Report Share Posted 22March, 2016 The odometer and trip meter in my 84 carrera stopped working yesterday. The speedometer still reads correctly.Reading online its a common problem with 30+ year old VDO instruments.I searched the forum and found a recommendation for a company Lionel Otto Instruments in QLD.Does any one know if there a reputable shop in Melbourne who can do the same? poli84 Posted 23March, 2016 Report Share Posted 23March, 2016 I rebuilt my own speedo when the odo and trip stopped working in my 964. Common problem for one small gear to break. It wasn't difficult and actually rather rewarding. The part was about $56-60 from the USA for the right planetary wheel.
Fraz Posted 23March, 2016 Report Share Posted 23March, 2016 Plus one for Howard instruments, I had my Holden GTS dash taco converted from points to electronic ignition, rebuilt the other gauges and provided correct senders. Fixed the speedo so the needle no longer jumped around at low speed.I tried to get Ringwood to do it, only thing I will say is get a firm time line on repairs. Peter M Posted 23March, 2016 Report Share Posted 23March, 2016 You can also buy the gear from a place in Sydney and do it yourself. Not hard to do and there is a YouTube video to guide you too.http://www.repairsonly.com.au/contact us.html
Stew F Posted 23March, 2016 Report Share Posted 23March, 2016 There is a place in myponga here in SA called Adelaide Speedo and gauge Service. I've heard lots of good reports about them. They do a lot of vintage stuff.
