D2000 Posted 27October, 2016 Report Share Posted 27October, 2016 Not a particularly surprising result, but the below decision of the Federal Court emphasises the need for caution (and in particular a good PPI) when purchasing "collectable" cars. Long story short (on a brief review), a man buys a 1970 Ford GTHO Falcon advertised on gumtree for $135,000. Unknown to either seller or buyer, it is in fact a different model Falcon worth only $25,000. The buyer finds this out when he has it inspected after he has bought it (no PPI undertaken). Too bad for him.http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/FCA/2016/1259.html

sandy468 Posted 28October, 2016 Report Share Posted 28October, 2016 How many freakin' times have people gotta be told when it comes to making "major" purchases of ANYTHING!! Do ya research, It's called google and forums or learned aquaintances - or dont buy something you know little about and expect to win the chocolates....Buyer is an idiot (and paying money over 8 months while you dont have the goods with a private seller - a freakin idiot) and more of a freakin freakin idiot for thinking he'd win at court - there went another $30K ..... CoSo Posted 28October, 2016 Report Share Posted 28October, 2016 Yes true but surely one would be a bit miffed at Ford for providing a Certificate of Authenticity that turns out to be in error. It would be very interesting if a PPI was completed and erroneously found to be genuine as per the original valuation from Mr Ward. P-Kay Posted 28October, 2016 Report Share Posted 28October, 2016 Ford only provide details as provided by the VIN.Just as there are specialist Porsche independents, they also exist in the Falcon GT world. For a HO, this should have been done, especially with an XW ....rare HO 2.5 pfff.... even the original owner telling him the radiator was 'a bit wrong' FARG ME

SimonN Posted 29October, 2016 Report Share Posted 29October, 2016 The important thing to note was that there was not attempt to deceive. If there had been, the result would have been very different. I also believe that you should not rely on a PPI done for and paid by somebody else, because you have no comeback.
