Vas Posted 30May, 2013 Report Share Posted 30May, 2013 What ever happend to the man perm hairstyle ? In the late 70s and early eighties it was such a big hit. Bands of the time would have no issue with a male perm, this then fed down to the man on the street who would perm away in order to keep up with his heroes. However, I have not seen a nice full fluffy man perm in years. Sure you see the odd dude with curly hair left to grow and are fooled for a moment, but alas on closer inspection its not the real deal. You can tell these by the health of the hair, a real man perm is dry and fluffy with split ends. So what happened ? Was it all to much work ? To hot in the warm weather ? Or just plain hideous ? Here are a few examples. First the classic 80s band perm, long and dry. Next up is the great mid length perm with a mustache. And who could forget the man perm with a short fringe, as seen here on Steve Porters all time fav Reo Speedwagon. Any idea what bought about the demise of this once great style ? I do have a feeling you may have been hanging around the City Square in the early 80s with a Cobra though. Cobra hairstyle, popular with young Greeks and Italians in Melbourne at the time.
