What a Sensibly Priced 1987 Carrera?

Recommended Posts

Spoke to the owner.

It was getting a PPI done today that had been arranged by a potential buyer.

According to Shaun, its Australian delivered, exactly how it looks in the photos, used but honest and no surprises. He's had it 5 years.

Good luck to the new owner! Lucky bugger!

Did look good..

Priced pretty high, but this one at RSR looks alright

Sorry for the ignorance, but what gives this one away as converted, or has someone contacted the seller?

I believe the direction the wipers go Ross. I learnt that here on PFA. Other signs too like the funny big bumper stopper doodads and the weird surrounds that are found on some lights on 911s from the USA.

I'm sure there's lots more and I will be corrected if wrong :)

For what it's worth guys I am aware of a guy at work whose friend is needing to offload his Midnight Blue 996 for around $35K - could go lower as needs to free up some cash for a project.

I've seen it and sat in it a few weeks ago-black leather and upon a very quick glance I terroir very good ad body just needs a detail. Obviously if interested get a PPI however with sub 100K mileage I thought it was a good buy. Seriously considered it myself however a bit unrealistic at present.

"Full service history from day 1 and books" is a huge plus but IMO the interior colour is just wrong.

How did you figure that?

The one I linked was $40k, was a 87 model, honest and had the G50 gearbox?  From what I have seen the price was very realistic, even  sensible.

The RSR one is a 84 model, $55k and someone has done something horrible to the pedals.

What have I missed aimr75?

Cheers

Peter

996 for 35k with less than 100k on the clock.... Sounds too good to be true.

The way I read the post Peter (for the second time mind you) was that the one at RSR was "prided pretty high" not the original one in this thread.

Correct, i was referring to the RSR one being priced pretty high.. thought it looked ok re service history, low k's. Interior colour not a plus

I'm sure it's a nice car but $10K overpriced IMO.  But then...if it sells..what do I know?

It's what Hamiltons or PCM PCB would have it advertised for and people seem to be happy to pay that sort of price when buying from a dealer. If it was private sale then it would be $10k overpriced. I think he'll easily get $50k for it based on kms and FSH.

Hi All

I am the new owner of the 87 Carrera 3.2 advertised in Adelaide (well about 90% there)…its coming to Melbourne next week hopefully I’m just organising getting up there and doing a road trip back.

PPI showed that it was a genuine Aus delivered with some very minor items needing attention..

It’s a rust free example with no signs of any major accident damage..Full books suggest that kilometres and stamps in service book are genuine, it’s had quite a bit of work done..top end rebuild (although close to 100k ago), recent clutch, flywheel replacement, alternator rebuilt and bits and pieces such as steering rod bushes ect. And yes your all correct, air con does not work no surprise.

It’s a very clean 3.2 and  Leakdown and compression test showed a very healthy engine with even numbers across the board, compression across all cylinders b/w 160 and 170psi. Drove well as it was thoroughly inspected by a reputable independent Porsche specialist. I believe the colour is granite green with a dark olive interior.

I’ve been looking for a while and as per an earlier comment, not many genuine aussie delivered 3.2’s come up for sale that are worth looking at. Current owner Shaun was a pleasure to deal with and accepted an offer I made earlier in the week subject to PPI..despite the calls he has had on the vehicle since. I have pretty much purchased sight unseen (and this is my first Porsche) however based on the vehicle I have inspected in the past, consulting with friends who currently own a range of Porsches between 356/Carrera 3.2/964 C2 the decision was unanimous..too good to pass up.

This has the non-US ROW headlight surrounds fitted , not the foreskins (Amanda's too polite to call them this)  Also, it has side marker lights behind the front turn signals instead of a black rubber piece. Cant see it here but the rear lamps have a side marker light as well.

VIN confirms the build spec.  http://www.911specs.com/VIN76s911.htm

A careful ppi is needed to check the quality of the swap over. especially the sheet metal in the front compartment where the steering goes through
