Philbee Posted 5September, 2017 Report Share Posted 5September, 2017 I was thinking of replacing my black with red seat belts for a bit of color... Yep, nothing technical. Started looking around but found my searches kept bringing up red race harnesses or the usual autobarns don't have them & International Porsche sites want big bucks for Porsche belts... Surely, there must be a cheaper or local option where I could buy them..? I just want the standard 3 point sash belts for road use. Also, I don't want to replace the buckle ( the girl bit) bolted to the centre just the clip (the boy bit) and the sash itself with the retractable bit. Can I do it or get my local to connect it or does it need a certified dude to do it & sign it off?any suggestions welcome... Otherwise, I'll just keep googling oh also, are there diff buckles and clips I should be wary of? Eg. If I keep my buckle, do I need to ensure I get the correct boy clip? hugh Posted 5September, 2017 Report Share Posted 5September, 2017 You will struggle to find belts locally due to AS standards. You may want to check with a RW mech and insurer before you look to remove the original or "factory" belts.

Philbee Posted 6September, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 6September, 2017 Hmmm, not sure why but I just assumed this would a simple swap, goto autobarn type purchase, any generic 3 point sash would do... unbolt old one and screw in new one. Simples. But oh no, grasshopper... the pebble you snatch from my hand is still there. Too slow. Need to work on this more...

LeeM Posted 6September, 2017 Report Share Posted 6September, 2017 I wouldn't think that a reputable company such as Willshire Trimmers, or any other large retail chain would sell a product that contravenes Australian standardsMaybe ask them http://www.willshire.com.au/seat-belts/general-purpose-seat-belts

Looks like the deal. But it's interesting how they need to specify which car it fits... I don't get that. As long as you have the 3 screw holes in the right spots to bolt the bits into, what does it matter? (Excuse the ignorance here)
deano Posted 7September, 2017 Report Share Posted 7September, 2017 I thought much the same. The kit comes with all 3 mounting bolts, and the stalk obviously, plus various small brackets and spacers that let you fit it in a number of positions (eg bolted to the side of a sill vs doubled up with the belt end mounted together with the retractor itself). The instructions are pretty detailed, for what it is, and they are a 'brand'name. For the Escort I am restoring, I figured virtually any new belts would be better and safer than those from 1977 vintage.Confession time: I haven't even really sat in a Porsche yet, but would expected the seatbelt bolts themselves to be an international standard, like fitting child seats?Worst case scenario, you could use the existing Porsche bolts, and install the new stalk, and retractor?Whatever you choose, obviously it's key to your safety so good luck. 911 Snake Posted 22December, 2017 Report Share Posted 22December, 2017 haha.. oh dear.. add another '0' to your $200.. and that's just the fronts! Tad more expensive with a 997 given they have a bit more tech and links to the airbags but still a RORT!
