991.1 base prices

Well maybe i will have to eat my words, it now seems the 991.2's are getting down to 991.1 pricing, or are the 991.1 sellers just holding out for Covid money and the 991.2's are end of lease or more at dealers that need to turn them over ? how far yet to fall, what were the 991.1 S and 4S prices pre-covid ? i think i can remember around $150k mark ?

In my observations, it appears there is a lot of the market that is caught up with what they need to get out of their cars, versus what the market will bare... those whom will meet the market generally don't have an issue finding a buyer in a short timeframe! Much like realestate, time on market tells a good story as to the appetite of that particular market.

Case in point: I have watched the 991.1 GT3 RS market for a long time now, those cars got down to very low $300k in 2019 (and I am sure traded in at the 2's), there is a glut of them still for circa $400k and beyond, all have been listed for a long time now! Porsche Centre Hobart has listed two now in recent times mid to low 300k asking, those cars have found new homes in a short amount of time.. take the covid BS out of the equation and follow the usual depreciation curve, this is still an exceptional result for those cars in my opinion...

The fisherman we often discuss here have really put me buying anything else from the Porsche marque, so I've started to play elsewhere to be honest... I simply get too pissed off, and I know I am not alone in this!

Same. I’m itching to get another P-car, join some SMTs again or just get out for a solo drive … I’m not afraid of normal depreciation but paying way over the odds to satisfy others delusions has put me well and truly off.

At another price point, I saw a manual 981 Boxster sell in two days at a dealer for $65k … I guess it didn’t last long enough for those asking $80-100k for theirs to notice… 🙄

Its not like the dealer shenanigans were any better. Buying before the glut truly comes would be silly. IMO hold out until the end of the year / early next year. Was speaking with a family member today and he was saying the rate moves are 3 months behind on his mortgage.

Always hard to pick the timing, I know there’s the thought train of buying the best you can at the time, but the issue is the market by large is over cooked, and savvy buyers don’t want to participate! Because who wants to pay overs?

I will note earlier in this thread I had made note of a consideration to a 991.1, but my attention went elsewhere for the above reasons, and the 997 is gone & not replaced by a 991

I think the issue for me is in “normal” times you’d expect if you bought a car today and sold it tomorrow, it would be for the same price.

As you said, the market is totally cooked, and I know if I bought anything I’m interested in at the Carsales asking price today, I’d be knocking at least 20% off to sell it tomorrow … and …

I hear you!

BUT.. I bought my 997 in 2021, maintained it to a very high level, added PCCM+ and Öhlins then sold it for a small loss, because hey I’m realistic 😂

Nothing to really add besides good to see other people share same sentiment of the market is a bit crazy still.

Curious to hear what alternatives to Porsches you're considering. Bit over the inflated prices for 911s atm.

To put things into context, something ain't right when you can play with a V12 Ferrari for similar $$$ to a to 911 Carrera!

Granted I am not comparing their running costs, the Fiat is obviously more $$$ but you get where I am coming from

The V8 Ferraris are still overpriced in my opinion. Though I agree with the V12 prices they are presenting better value. I quite like the 599.

I'd agree with that... 355/360/F430 are a bit punchy on prices, the Ferrari equivalent of a classic 911 perhaps?

456 GT/ 550 or 575 Maranello / 599 GTB take your pick... $150-350k is the range, there is a lot of car to be had!

A 4 seat manual v12 under $200k feels like a bargain right now compared to some Porsche prices.

Saw a manual 981 Boxster S sell recently for around $80k, and a UK import 997.1 c2s at same price point.

As for non porsche options how about this left field option, the Lexus LC https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2017-lexus-lc-lc500-auto/OAG-AD-22051539 . One just sold last listed at $105k.

Pure porn. Have always loved the look of these, and that’s a great price.
In a small driver’s club I’m a member of, one of these comes out for a drive every so often. They’re heavy but what a GT cruiser.

It certainly is!

And if you are willing to go abroad, you can land them ex UK for better than local asking prices, naturally you'd need to do all the required due diligence in taking that path, but Ferrari's of that era are quite well represented on the SEVS list, so an easy job to import really... I'd considered buying one in Europe, driving it there and shipping it home, but found one locally I couldn't say no to.

It does seem Ferrari's are coming back to reality in prices compared the Porsche product............
