Simonk Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Hi Greg and welcome. I'm pretty sure it's been for sale for a very long time. At least 2 years. Unless I'm confusing it with another 930 with photos taken through a hazey pornographic style lense?

hugh Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Vintage porn! Haven't seen date stamped photos for a while, some date back to 2008. I would be very curious of the condition of the car currently, a lot can happen in 5 years (especially in the wrong hands!).
Coastr Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Hong Kong is part of China!!! Or maybe I got the text wrong? HK imports are RHD its a RHD Market? or am I on crack? HK is RHD due to being a former British colony like us downunder, even though it's now part of china which is LHD, but HK still RHD. Remember when these 1980s Ps were screwed together Queen Elizabeth was still head of state in downtown honkers. I have some great car photos from Hong Kng in the early 90s. Lamborghini dealership, RRs, weird Jap cars, that sort of thing. Even some pics of a dealer that was selling brand new VW beetles - I think they were remanufactured, or maybe imported from Mexico or something. Marlotec Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Hi, Another newbie to PFA here, looking to get myself into my first 911, specifically a mid-late 80's Carrera coupe. I've had a look at this car: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=15892641&silo=stock&eapi=2&vertical=car Does anyone have any thoughts / knowledge of this car? I know the general condition and an overview of its history, but this forum is such a great source of knowledge I thought I'd ask. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated! Cheers, Paul

I don't know much about the car but I remember Amanda (PFA member) made comment about it awhile back. I'm sure she will be able to add more than I. Guest hepkat63 Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 I also enquired about this car and spoke to the owner. It was in his words 'a driver' - so that pretty much sums it up. You would need some $$ in the bank to go with this one I think - well, that is the opinion I was left with.
Marlotec Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Thanks guys. I'd definitely need to budget for some work to be done in the not too distant future - I guess that's the trade-off with a car at this price point. Cheers, Nick Yeh that car used to get parked on the street near my house but I've not seen it in a long time. I think the owner was taking it out of the garage during the day time as I'd never see it at night. From memory it was pretty straight, tidy but I remember a paint blemish? Don't quote me on that as it was awhile ago I saw the car. I used to look at it and think I'd like that car. So it wasn't too rough! There's no harm in looking at it, worst case scenario Paul wastes a bit of his time! NiX
Flatout Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Hi, my name is Greg and I am newbie to the PFA. Been a long time Porsche fan and am currently in the market my all time favourite the 930. Saw this pop up on my alerts this morning. Does anyone know the history of this car, Looking at the VIN is a ROW car but seems quite a lot of work has been done considering the low kms. Obliviously a rare car if genuine. Any advise would be great. Greg Sorry my bad, [url=http://www.carsales.com.au/Private/details/SSE-AD-156864?WT.seg_4=AutoAlert;PCAA]http://www.carsales.com.au/Private/details/SSE-AD-156864?WT.seg_4=AutoAlert;PCAA[/url Greg. Hi mate, Love this car, I was interested in this a couple of years ago so did some digging. He bought it from Japan damaged I think. It had been in a garage that had caught fire, although the car was not directly burnt it was affected by it. I assume thats why it doesn't have its ruf bumpers and that is why the engine was removed and freshened. I contacted ruf in both Germany and Japan to try and confirm its authenticity, but had no luck, Japan never replied and Germany kept saying they were looking but never got back either way. He had no history on the car at all and given his pricing level I didn't pursue it. Dont get me wrong I love the car, but I would have been stretching beyond my budget to get anywhere near it and couldn't justify it for me. If you could get it authenticated from ruf it would help, maybe even chase its history in Japan. Very rare colour too the slate grey. Black Pearl Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 I had a look at this a few months back. It was a decent driver but a bit rough as reflected in the price. Paint is worn but no identifiable rust although any car should be thoroughly checked. It's a US import which probably has affect on the price. The owner was nice and reasonably accommodating. Give him a call and go check it out.Hi, Another newbie to PFA here, looking to get myself into my first 911, specifically a mid-late 80's Carrera coupe. DJM Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Saw a UK import 2010 997 on a hoist today and was astounded at rust issues - seams in body all rusty, mechanical components covered in rust, threads and nuts rusted beyond recognition, front struts and brake lines rusty, a lot of calcification around head ports (exhaust had been removed). Car was apparently purchased 30k below market so owner will probably come out ahead as long as they get it all sorted, Looked pretty clean from above but wow underneath was grim. Just goes to show how much damage salted roads can do it a very short time. Massive difference between cars stored for winter and a daily driver. Avoiding salty road imports has been well covered on the forum but I did not expect that level of rust in a 3 year old car. I stopped short of taking photos....... The UK has had some very snowy winters in the last 5 years. New cars are more likely to be used as 'winter cars' because they are bought to be the primary mode of transport. All the classic cars treated that way have long rusted away, so ironically you're more likely to see it in a newer car. Still, a good warning for those who think 'ah, it will be OK'. No it probably will not.
Guest hepkat63 Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 Sorry... another newbie question ! Are the Carrera 4 cars desirable .... http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-911-Carrera-1991/SSE-AD-2366052/?Cr=11&sdmvc=1 this one looks pretty good. I thought I read somewhere that the four wheel drive model wasn't that good (read $$$ to fix) and the better option was the Carrera 2 around the same year (1990 - 1991). Personally, I still find the 4wd models desirable however the 2wd variants will generally be the preference. I put this as more of a reflection of the 'purist' 911 owner as opposed to maintenance however maintenence is still a consideration. It's similar to a cab/tip being a more expensive model when new however less desirable to the typical 911 preference of a manual coupe. If I found a clean 964 that ticked all my boxes I wouldn't discount it just because it was a 4, they still drive fantastic!
Tit Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 I think the maintainance risk of the 4wd system is overstated on most forums. Talk to a few Porsche mechanics and they'll tell you they rarely see them fail. The C4 does feel heavier than the C2 but it has great traction qnd handling and are probably safer for inexperienced drivers. 4wd is certainly not a reason to avoid them. What made you chose the 2WD over the 4WD (just curious !).
Tit Posted 10December, 2013 Report Share Posted 10December, 2013 I definitely did look at C4s. Nothing against them. I got the C2 because it was the right car at the right time. thanks Tit - i see you have a C2 994 - did you look at the four wheel drive 994 as well ? Cheers, Paul Hey Paul, I actually spoke with the owner and requested he do a PPI at WeltMeister who had serviced the car in the past, he took on the cost of the PPI as he needed to know what was needed to pass a RWC, he never got back to me after that, but the price was adjusted from 39k to 37k, so maybe theres a couple of things it still needs? But what I did find out from talking to him: Its a US Import with LHD -> RHD conversion quite early on in its life (cant remember exact date), it was then bought by Porsche Hamilton and sold through them and has service records since then. Even though the car has higher kms, it has been regularly driven and regularly serviced (big plus point, as one key thing I noticed with everyone selling their cars was theyd only driven them <500km in 1 year). He seemed like a very genuine individual and I dont think hes in a rush to sell it, but was negotiable when it came to the cost of the car. Would be a good buy I think it you can get it for 35k, considering it has the later 3.2 and G50.
