Really surprised they're making this, given how they've differentiated their products to protect their margins. My guess is they think that the only car that this will be competing with is a GT3, and can be priced accordingly (which will mean $200-250k in Australia).

I wonder if they are banking on the die-hard 911 fraternity always buying the 911, but for the Cayman GT4 to conquer sales that would have falled to another marque?

sounds accurate- if you like what rear engined offers, you can't really get it anywhere else, but you've got options for mid engined cars elsewhere at or above 911 carrera spec.

long overdue i think.. going to be a cracker of a car

The Cayman S as even a basic package is so appealing in both finish and performance.

However, this iteration takes it to a whole new level of desirability. 

 

If I was in the market for a base model 911, though had no need for rear seats and a hunger for some serious raw performance, this would be it.

 

Can't wait to see one in the flesh.
