has anyone been to look at this car? Looks like quite good value in the current climate. Wonder why it hasn't sold.

Thnx GusTV great colour as well and the contrast with the black roof works well with the charcoal, but for us it has to be an auto - and 993 is the choice :)

I can't believe that hasn't sold... seems like a good car to me.

Now that I'm an expert hahaha (been a member for 5 mins) - that seems good value to me , cheap even. I'm looking at a '95 993 tip cab, they're asking $52000 and some PFA advice said was worth around $47,000 - this one at http://www.classicthrottleshop.com/modernclassic2.html is asking $59000 (take $55000?) and has 25000ks less on the clock and is a manual not an auto. And a black interior not grey. Sounds like a bargain in the current climate, pity my buy has to be an auto ::(((

Hi Sandy,

If after a cab, on a budget, use to a more modern car and there's just the 2 of you a Boxster is where I'd be looking. Huge bang for buck and I'd be much more confident that the wife would be well suited (comfort, mod cons, parking it etc.)

Just my 2 cents................

Yes I know it makes sense on one hand Hugh and we could get an S for $45000 I guess but we would be swapping like for like with the "06 Beemer 3ltr and still have the same problem of tumbling depreciation - the tight arse in us is dismayed at the $30,000 we've done in depreciation already and more to come, and I expect a boxster will keep going down as they have too ..... it's time for us to be wiser financially and get a classic that's going the opposite way - and it is a 911 after all - iconic!

I'm sure you had an equally rational argument when you went to purchase your Z4.............

You need to both take one of these cars for a drive and also get a solid idea of what running a 20+ yo porsche as a daily will cost you. Depreciation whilst a consideration maybe irrelevant once you add up the sums.

I'm yet to see any significant value increase in AC cabs (+ tips) that would be more than the price of a major service.

If you have your your heart set on one that's fine. I'd just hate to have you rush in without some real honest advice. It's your money but it's important to keep it all in perspective.

A few of us are heading to an event tomorrow north of the city, feel free to drop by and take a closer look/get a feel for things.................things could go either way!

True....my wife thinks my 993 is primitive, uncomfortable and smelly.   (Or perhaps that was directed at me ?? )    Oh, and she is amazed that the zircon, although it works far better than earlier ones, is still useless compared with a  modern car.

Keep in mind that rarely will you drop the 993 into a specialist mechanic, get a loan car and have yours back by the end of the day on your way home from work.    Modern cars are much more comfortable when it comes to living every day and doing servicing and summer shopping

But, as Hugh said, "Its your money" so spend it any damn way you please.

Good luck.  Exciting times.........(just make sure Mrs Sandy has a decent drive BEFORE you buy)

Sandy - not a personal dig - a genuine question, but didn't you expect the depreciation on the z4? It can't have been much of a surprise surely? I'm curious if you thought it would depreciate at a slower rate than what you have found?

Personally I was shocked to find out that an E60 M5 (the V10 model) is already in the mid 40k market, down from $250+ in less than ten years.

It's wise advice about service costs, but I'm sure you're already familiar with that and your Bring More Wallet already. (i have two of the things, I know what they're like)

Thnx for the advice and invite Hugh but my day is full tomorrow, another time for sure,

The car is the only toy we have and not a daily driver in the slightest, she brought it with her heart and this one's being brought with my head...

I also feel that the way the price of the entire range of 993;s have risen roughly 50% for each model in the past few years, who knows where it'll stop.I know the cab tips have only moved a bit in price so I feel they have a bit in them before all the crazy price rises settle a bit, and we're planning on holding it for years and years so over time its gaining not losing...at the end of the day as long as we don't loose $$$$ we'll be happy - and have a fabulous icon to enjoy all the while!

With the way our lives work it'll probably only see around 200 - 300 ks a month so hopefully only visits the doctor once a year as well.....she's a unique one my girl, had an old 350 chev powered jag xj6 for a number of years as a daily driver around 10 years back,  and on one hand loves the heated seats etc etc but on the other still loves the classic old feel and smell and ego of a classic icon -as long as she doesn't have to break a nail or get dirt under one...

It was her money Coastr and she just had to have it her heart told her, and didn't really think it'd drop $30000 in 3 years when it was already 6 years old - and I saw an early z4 on the net for $10000 the other day and a boxster for $14000 so the writing's on the wall for another $15000 or so south over the next 3 or 4 years I reckon, could be wrong, who knows....

Sandy, have owned BMWs and Mercedes (post 2003 models) and the build quality of the 993 is 10 times better.  Similar I would say to the early to mid 90s Mercs - super high quality materials.  I  can't see you going backwards on the 993 cab at that price, provided the engine check out.  Weltmeister will do a PPI for $550, a minor sevice for $930, major service for $2000 and tip service for an additional $500.

Thanks Luke, yes I can't see it costing any more at the doctors than the z4 costs, and the quality of the z4 feels ok but I am sure most quality cars in the mid 90's are better built than in the mid naughties - tell me, being rear engine, do they go through rear tyres quicker than a front engine? All that weight there and the squatting down when on the fast peddle ....

Ultimately Sandy it depends on how you drive.

My experience gives me three sets to two, however this is with some fairly firm settings.

It's a tiptronic coupe, midnight blue on black leather.

Nice Luke, great combo! We had a really detailed inspection of the one I was interested in and decided to walk - missus felt the grey interior was too heavy, really thick heavy grey it was. Paintwork was quite scuffed in general especially tops of guards and a bit of bonnet and fairly dull for what I think it should be, looked like it had been polished to an inch of it's life and no glow left in it.

And importantly it has certainly had a big repair on rear quarter - paint quite orange peely the entire quarter to the edge of the door and various gaps a bit out...all of this not un expected on a 160k 20yo car I guess but interestingly the interior looked in absolute mint cond, no wear anywere. Just didn't match the paintwork at all. Also missing the bonnet sticker (no big deal) but importantly also missing that plate that is riveted on the inside guard under carpet that tells you the colour code (I have been doing my research, thankyou forums ::)))) ....

Anyways will be patient and await the correct one to arrive - may have to wait awhile, patience is a virtue!

just happened to have checked mine for wear on the weekend, fronts look  about 1/2 worn and rears need replacing after 7,000 k. Dunlop Direzza`s.

Thanks for your reply T-Man and a contrast to yours I guess Steve - 7000k's, man that is some serious quick wear, I guess those Dunlops are soft as ....
