is a reference to the ground-breaking sports car of this type of the year 1957, which enjoyed much success in renowned car races. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are showing more similarities – both visual and technical. You would have to have your double strengh beer goggels on B)

It would have to be extremely special wouldn't it?  I mean, on the surface of it everyone, everywhere, is cringing at the very thought.

How do they build a car good enough, with a turbo flat 4 emotive enough to get around that?  Interesting times indeed...

Previous 4cylinder Turbos that sound as good as a flat 6 @ 7000rpm plus? Have yet to hear one.

Lots of PR going on trying to justify a change designed to meet an outdated and far from reality, government mandated fuel usage figure. When in the real world of spirited weekend driving the Turbo will use more fuel than the flat 6. The sucking up to (stupid) governments and pandering to misplaced political correctness has to stop before we all drive small capicity 2,3,4 cylinder vacuum cleaners.

Fear not, fresh Pork lovers!

As part of the short video released this week, proclaiming “The Legend 718 is about to return”, Porsche has also snuck in an exhaust note at the end of the vid, suggesting it’ll still prick up ears as well as turn heads.

Although it’s not as brash as a lumpy WRX STI with a serious exhaust kit, it still has a resonant boxer note and bodes well for Porsche’s new four-cylinder engine family, which will almost certainly find its way into other Porsche vehicles.

From what I can gather, the biggest market in the world for Porsche now is China, and that will only get bigger as time goes on as their middle class continues to grow.  China applies a 30% tax slug for six cylinder cars, so I suspect this is actually some very smart business decision making to ensure Porsche have a real option for that market without the incremental six cylinder tax burden........at the same time they can check in on the pressure to support lowering pollution generation.  Not being cynical or anything.

From a motoring mag:

5) Engine aside, you’ll need to be good at ‘Spot the Difference’ to recognise a 718

Unless you’re viewing the 718 from underneath, even Porsche fetishists might need to look twice to see what’s changed from Boxster to 718. Badges aside, restyled LED head- and tail-lights are the most obvious external change, with four bright dots per unit and horizontal light bars for the indicators and rear lights. Inside, a new instrument panel gets rid of the old noisy, relatively breathless air vents.

We don't have any of those types here do we?

Well I do like the leather:wub: :o"https://www.youtube.com/embed/mL7n5mEmXJo"

These are the first flat-fours in a mid-engined Porsche since the 914. They are also the first turbocharged flat-fours in a Porsche since, well, ever.

Unlike the 911, which is using a 3.0 liter flat-six in both the Carrera and Carrera S, just with different turbos, the 718 twins will have a 2.0 or a 2.5 liter turbocharged flat four. The 2.0 in the base cars will have 300 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque while the 718 Boxster S will have a 2.5 liter flat-four turbo with 340 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. There could also be a GTS version coming with 365 horsepower.

Porsche also couldn't fit the 3.0 liter flat-six from the 911 into the Boxster, the additional plumbing for the turbos wouldn't let it fit, so they had to go to a flat-four. What is good to know is that a naturally aspirated flat-six could still fit.
