Disrobing KLASSSSY / De-959-ing

On the value topic.   Given the history of the car - ex klasssy chop up - is anyone ever going to pay top dollar as a numbers correct example?

Thought experiment.  The car is completed but none of us know the backstory.   It pops up on carsales and then on the 'for sale' thread as a numbers matching original.  A discussion starts and someone throws in the suggestion that it used to have no roof, parts came from all different cars etc etc.   Would the car be easy to sell?

This is not a dig at Jono.  What you are doing is awesome.

Its more a reflection on what do you want out of the car?  Do you want a top dollar resale or do you want your dream 911?  Because to me once you answer that question the engine answer resolves itself.

That is an excellent point. @Coastr

Timely example - the arrow blue 930 being sold by Rob in Blaxland. It has a similar Frankenstein roofless history and he has struggled to sell it even at the height of the market. I think the difference between his car and my car is that he did all the structural body work himself, whereas Zags are going to do mine.

In terms of what I want from the car, I want to make my dream 911 and keep it for my own enjoyment forever.

It'll never be that undriven low km barn find matching numbers car that goes for $150K-$200K.

At the same time, I do want to enjoy it as a 'historical' / 'period' car.  There is something about hoping into a car from that era that just feels different.  You immediately get transported back to a time when mechanical technology was emerging, MFI was cutting edge fuel delivery, and absolutely no bloody computers were required to fix your car.  When you drive, it feels raw and real. I do like that era and that feeling. It's why I love building and riding vintage Ducatis.

Just a small note on the subject of that 3.6 engine. It states that the parts were from Ninemeister in Germany and this is confusing. Either there are 2 Ninemeisters, or he is actually referring to the company in Northern England (pretty sure that is who he really means). Now, this is good news because the gear they make and the engines built from it are rather special. Colin Belton is a bit of a legend and has done a lot to advance the building of quality, high performance Porsche engines. Without knowing exactly what parts of his have been used, some were developed in conjunction with well known F1 engine designers and have more science behind them than your average car part. I know there are a number of the top Oz specialists who buy stuff from Colin. In short, it's probably a fairly special engine!

If you want the vintage feel go for the 911E motor.  Get one that is correct for the year and get it running sweet. I'm with you in the MFI appreciation - there is no comparison with the CIS motors because of the more tortured intake.

If you went the 3.6 route you'd start thinking about a wide body and before you know it you're building a poor mans singer.

so skinny Fuchs, delicate yellow and 2.2E it is.

There.  Does anyone else need a decision made?!

Yarrambat?  It's my sister-in-laws place.  I don't think her hubby will part with it though.  Should see the monster he's built though!

Yep. Spoke to him about it before I go my SC. No numbers , no tags , quarters missing ect. I do believe it's up for grabs as they want to rid it from the property before the new house is complete. Always worth an ask if someone's keen

here's a roof. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/camden-south/other-parts-accessories/porsche-1968-912/1130404049

you just need to find someone that is taking a RHD convert back to LHD and someone that needs SWB rear quarters to split it with and part out the rest.

Didn't a 912 project just sell recently with big flares on the back?

Correcto. I had the 9M throttle body kit on my 964RS for awhile. Increased HP and more tractable. Good made even better.

@JonoF If you're in need of inspiration to resume the Klassssy revival you can have a drive in my '71E. Keep you focussed.

Gents

I inform you, with mixed emotions, that KLASSSSY has a new owner.

KLASSSSY has been a roller coaster of ups and downs for me. The project itself has been super interesting and fun, but low points have definitely included my wife recently threatening the "D" word and also being scammed out of a bunch of cash for a non-existent body shell.

I sell KLASSSSY with great regret in not having brought her back to her former glory. She'll be one sexy lady once finished!

However, I AM VERY PLEASED to inform you that Peter K (@P-Kay) has bought her.  Peter is a great bloke and he has the passion, patience and budget to properly restore her to her former glory. And, most importantly, the addition of a new project to his garage doesn't appear to phase his Mrs. Lucky man!

I will be following Peter's build thread with great interest! I think it'll start coming together pretty quickly!

Thanks for all your support during my short lived build thread.

Cheers

Jono
