Hugo Posted 11February, 2011 Report Share Posted 11February, 2011 Hi All Name is Hugo,44, originally from South Africa and living for the past year in Canberra. Still Porscheless BUT hopefully not for long. Love the car since I was kid and will definately take the step this year to get one in the garage. I will also get advise on where and what to buy once the cash is in the bank so any advise will be appreciated. There is no specific favour in what model at this stage as long as it is a porsche. Baby steps first. I have done all the needed things at home for the wife and kids and this year it is time for me and the porsche to meet. And, my oh my, what a meeting it is going to be. Will keep you posted. Cheers Hugo

911-40 Jahre Posted 13February, 2011 Report Share Posted 13February, 2011 Hi All, Well, I joined up some time ago, but I haven't had much time to post up on the "getting started" board, so here goes! My name is Kiran and I am from Melbourne, although I left Aus in 2007 to work full time in the Middle East. I am a motoring journalist, with a penchant for Porsche and cars belonging to the VW Group. I used to write for a bunch of international car mags, but these days I focus on my blog/website BLYFOOZE.COM I seem to represent the better marques here in the Middle East, and I am sort of the "go to guy" out here in Oman for special cars, like 356s, 914s etc. I have the following cars here in Oman: 911/996 "40 Jahre" Anniversary model (2004) with a Gemballa exhaust, 6-spd manual and a lot of other goodies (363hp) 968 Rubystone Red Coupe 3.0 (1992) 6-spd manual (240hp) VW Touareg 3.6 V6 (2009) automatic (280hp) And parked in Melbourne I still have: 914 1.7 (1973) 5-spd manual (78hp) - currently for sale! VW Golf Mk3 VR6 5-spd manual (189hp) I do a lot of great car write ups and I invite you to stop past blyfooze and take a look. If anyone ever needs my help for anything in the region, or if anyone wants to get a hold of something special, let me know! In the past I have purchased cars on behalf of people buying gifts for the Sultan in Oman, so I have access to some amazing cars - but they are all LHD! bb3188 Posted 17February, 2011 Report Share Posted 17February, 2011 Hi All, Just dropped by to introduce myself ............ My name is Mark and i am from Melb. I have been a past lurker of this forum and have gleened some useful advise (thanks for the good post). I have always like Porsches but have not in the past considered them (as I have been put off by for various reasons) to having one. after a long process of elimination, I have recently picked up a nice 993 c2 . Here is a pic of my car. I have not done much too it, just getting the usual repair and maintaince done ie service etc, etc I am currently replacing the fan hub bearing and getting the alternator overhauled atmo. I decided to take the opportunity to give the engine bay a bit of a clean, below are the before and after pics............ thanks for reading ! Cheers Chris Cheers for the kind words Chris, IT would be great to catch and its not too hard to catch up for me as as I am often in the bayside area. Out of interest, do you do a daily drive up beach road? The reason I ask is that during the process of selecting the right car for me, I was toying with the idea of a 993 and was pretty much sold on it when I saw a black 993 'in the flesh' one morning driving to the city via south road and eventually on to beach road. rgds Mark

Chris-p Posted 18February, 2011 Report Share Posted 18February, 2011 Hi Mark, my car only gets driven on fine days except for the SMT's when it seems to always rain with the exception of the last one! Definitely have to catch up, I was going to suggest an early morning or nice evening get together in the carpark at the end of North rd in Brighton so have to see what we can organise. Did you buy your car in melbourne? RSR? Cheers Chris

oz951 Posted 1March, 2011 Report Share Posted 1March, 2011 G'day, I just found this forum so I thought I would say hello and sign up. I'm in the UK at the moment but will be back in Oz in a year or two. My 951 is already in Oz and my 996 will be coming back with me. Cheers, Wayne
D-banger Posted 3March, 2011 Report Share Posted 3March, 2011 Welcome aboard Wayne. Nice P-Car fleet. Lived in London for about 8 years myself. Never ever got my head around the concept of salt on the roads and the damage inflicted on cars. I guess if your brought up on it you just accept it. jbdave Posted 25March, 2011 Report Share Posted 25March, 2011 Finally I got one ! I've been wanting a 911 Carrera since I was about 11 years old when I first saw them in the movies, and had a poster of one up on my wall as a kid. I then really wanted one after having a drive in a turbo when I was about 16. I'm now 35 and married with kids, so the time was right. I took the punt and bought this one. The PPI was really good with the only fault being the rear shocks looked a bit old. Compression and leakdown tests were great (4% on all cylinders), and the engine is strong with a good transmission. The car is very clean with the interior being near spotless and the engine and undercarriage also very clean. The paint is nice, but the spoiler needs a re-paint, and the body could do with a good detail. It's an 86 model with about 195kms on the clock. I already have a shopping list for the car including finding some original Fuchs wheels, a cat bypass and sports exhaust and probably a chip. Here are some pics I took today in front of my office: MB911
PCM911T Posted 26March, 2011 Report Share Posted 26March, 2011 JBDave, welcome aboard, like your 3.2 including the Simmons? wheels. May not be Fuchs but will do the job. Condition inside seems to indicate careful previous owners. It's red so keep it polished with a good wax. Cheers Paul M
Undeadtrev Posted 26March, 2011 Author Report Share Posted 26March, 2011 Hello JBDave, Congrats on your purchase. Watch out mate they can get a little addictive. Nice looking vehicle, although I am a little partial to the red as you will notice if you check out my babies on page one of this introduction forum. Good luck with getting the few things done that you spoke of, enjoy. Trev

funkysmell Posted 25May, 2011 Report Share Posted 25May, 2011 Hi everybody, Peter's the name, new to the thread and the porsche world. Sold my business and wanted to spoil my self for my hard work. But didnt want a late model 996 997 as there will always be new porsches around, so figured the newest of the old would be a good starting point. Plus I really wanted to get the true porsche experience before Porsche Americanised everything i.e. fool proofing and cup holders . Wife wanted a new model, but sorry they look abit japanese these days. I'm a butt man as well, so old school wide body was a must. I think the argument of " honey it will hold its value longer than the new ones" worked well. So what did I want? A 993 Turbo. Holly S&#T. Once you try a turbo you can't go back. What a rush. After 12 months of researching what to look out for, 3 books read, searching ads, traveling to nearly every state in Australia, test driving over 10 993 Turbos ( i think thats nearly 10% of all models brought in to Oz) but still not satisfied in the quality out there, I finally rang up Autohaus Hamilton to see if any of there customers were looking at selling as the good ones never even see the light of carsales.com.au. Sure enough they did and unfortuntaley sure enough they new I was going to pay premium for it as I wanted a truely immaculate one. $170k later here it is. See my Sig for further details. As rare as these cars are to see on the road, on the day i picked her up from the dealer to drive her from sydney to my home in canberra, with in 5 minutes the same model black 993 turbo comes out in front of me almost in an escorting way to see me off. What are the chances of that? I took a pic too of the guy. So 6 months later brings us to today. So far so good. Although the alternator needed repalcement. I better get used to constant repair bills I guess. cheers peter T
