Thats a nice little red one!

That was the last day we owned it.. a few hours later it was gone. It was on the market for like 6 hours before we had cash in our hands and it was pulling out of the driveway!

It was clearly a very nice example. It's funny when  you sell a car that quickly, for me usually, the car has sold so fast I've not had time to come to term with it actually going.

My MKV GTI was one of those cars. Sold it the day after putting it up for sale.

Haha very interesting.....not sure what to say there.

He makes some valid comments  about the car, but I think his overall inbuilt negativity stops him from mentioning what the plus's are.

not sure, if he was entirely fair in his critique.

Fun to listen to though.. Thanks for posting TIT....

Yep, ours is for sale now that we have taken delivery of the Boxster. Good fun car to drive and own, has been very reliable, haven't been concerned if it isn't the fastest thing around.

We have had a fairly long history in sports cars - Fiat 124cc to start with, then Triumph Stag (yes I know...), then a historic Tas sports racing car to play around with on the track, MGB (for a long time), MGB GT V8 (only car I've ever made money on!), MGA restoration and upgrade job (never finished...) then kids (sold the MGB when we couldn't bolt a second car seat into the roll cage to go to a NatMeet!!).

A few years ago wife said she wouldn't mind getting another 2 seater convertible, so we looked at MGF (late model TF particularly) but when we mentioned this to a mate who is the top MG specialist mechanic in Tassie he said forget the Tf and get the MX5 we'd looked at which was 1/2 the price.

Excellent decision, and the reality is that there is absolutely no problems with the MX5 (20012 NB8B), but with salary packaging now confirmed again, wedecided to upgrade to a Boxster.

I had a 1.8 NA 1994.

And over christmas i went out with the MX5 club on a good drive to kinglake, black spur, reefton spur and back to Melb.

had a great time.

And .. I couldn't get away from an MX5 on the reefton spur, the guy was faster than me !

I'll make my excuses and say that he had full harness + roll cage + track tyres.

:-)

but I'll admit to him having more courage too.

they are nice cars. not much power in a straight line, but out in the hills, very quick.

  • 2 months later...

Had a 2004 1.8 which was a great little car,

Also had a 2012 bilstein edition hard top which was such a nice car to drive. Much roomier than the older models and more refined. It handled amazingly but unfortunately it had to make room for a station wagon family car.

Sold the MX at the weekend  :)

Overdraft looks much healthier now, plus my car (4007) gets a garage spot again.

Very happy  :)

Happy to say that I have been in the ranks of MX-5 ownership.

I had a 1993 1.8 and was a great little car. Not that fast, but great fun to drive.

Other than a set of BBS wheels (and the addition of a tow bar), I had mine stock. I ended up moving it on and getting a Peugeot 205 GTI because it was a bit more practical, and I could fit the bike in the back.

I was half thinking of going back to an MX-5 when considering the Boxster purchase. In the end I decided they were too different to compare. I also came to the conclusion if I bought an MX-5, I would still see and Boxster and regret not getting one.

Amanda - with changed requirements and boxster going, I saw that BRG series 1 at classic throttle shop and thought that it would be a cheap halfway house with your new situation. It only has 100k , is in the absolute best colour combo, has a factory hardtop and soft top, interior including seats look amoungst the best I've seen.

I've got a 2006 MX5 which I've owned since new. I love it but am ready to upgrade to the Porsche family! I'm looking at upgrading to a 997 in the near future. I'd love a 997.2 with PDK but it's just out of my budget, so the plan is a manual 911 S. Also tempted by used 981 Boxsters at around the same price range.

I watched the Chris Harris review and while I usually enjoy his reviews I thought he was a bit off the mark with this one. No-one buys an MX5 expecting it to be a better track weapon than a GT3. It's a roadster which, compared to family cars, has pretty good handling and is reasonably priced.

550Spyder - I just drove a '05 R53 MINI cooper S (supercharged not turbo) and it was a hoot! Supercharger sounded great and it enough power to satisfy me.

I've had 3 MX5s already - I think I need something different.

I'm researching cost of the things that can go wrong before going any further with it.

Also like PFA, seems to be a good group of enthusiasts to hang out with too ;)

Bit off topic, apologies in advance. Amanda, if your thinking about a mini maybe worth while looking at the Abarth 500? They a great (and really fun!) drive, more space inside than the mini but still is a proper 'small car' - great cafe for the money IMO.

Apologies again for the thread hijack!
