Any recommendations for workshops . So far Auto House Chatwood and Cavoco Motors Arundel St. Have been recommended. If you used them or others any advice would be welcome.

Thanks that was about the mark and another 2.5 K for warranty extension for 2 years, if it was up to standard. The lady said they down load the info from computer on driving style and maintenance record . I have only had it serviced at SSP. Alexandria.

You get Roadside assistance with Porsche - they are typically competative-ish. If you want to service it elsewhere and still get the warranty extension then you will need to pay for the inspection

Mine was $2,220 for the 4 year service including the brake fluid change (brake fluid is required every 2 years) and $2,390 for the 2 year warranty extension.

I didn't get other quotes since it seemed similar other cars I've owned for a major service and they are doing oil change, particle filters, air filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, major service checks etc.. plus you get a loaner car and roadside assistance.

The good thing about doing the dealer service was that they picked up an issue with the outer skin of the soft top when they had it in and booked me in to replace it for free under warranty a couple of weeks after when they got the replacement top in.

Autohaus in Chatswood would be where I'd go to if I wasn't going to the dealer.

Could I have some further information on the major service.  Was it because the car hit 4 years or had it reached a certain klms travelled.  My car is 4 in December but will only have 23000 klms.  Should I start saving for a $2220 service cost.  All the other 3 services have been $695 to $895

It's based on KM's or age and at 4 years you need to do a major service regardless of KM's following the book.

Yes it is based on time or distance travelled. Some of non factory mechanics don’t think the filter e.g. particle filter needs to be changed so soon.  I miss out on a loan car ? as only available in 2weeks time. My car has done 24000 .

I recently had the major service that included a change of plugs - PCM told me the coil packs are very difficult to remove after 4 years and can break when trying to remove (as mine did) - I did not investigate doing it myself but was kind of glad I did not attempt the job.

Hi Merv,

i would encourage you to fully investigate costs (as you are doing) because I found I could not rely on what is published on dealer websites - actual cost was materially higher and the published information confusing if not misleading. One example was spark plugs and I assumed (incorrectly) the higher cost for a major service that includes changing spark plugs would cover the cost of spark plugs!

I had the same experience, sparkplugs were extra. So was break fluid.

Also found out if you’re car is being accessed for extended warranty make sure it is booked in before the expiry date and actually inspected before or there is an additional charge of approximately $400.00  This is controlled by the German company and not the local car company.

Regards

Richard.

P.S. Has anyone used faux leather for seat covers, to protect the leather seats?

Thanks again David.  I would like to change the plugs and coil packs but the 987.2 is a bit more tricky in terms of access it seems. Will give it a try.  I have the facilities and the tools I believe. Which plugs did the OPC use?

They are checking driving style to continue with the extended warranty?  Wasn’t aware of this... What are they looking for exactly?  Does anybody know?

Hi All, thought I would piggy back on this one. I recently had a much lighter wallet after a major service was done on a 987 era Boxster S. I went to a dealer (stealer? Lol)! to get it done, because my preferred indy was booked solid for months. What is the going rate for a major service including brake fluid, spark plugs, air & oil filter, drive belt, cabin filter, etc these days?

I'm based in Sydney.

Thanks.

For a major service for a 987 Boxster at PCM in Vic is quoted@ $1750 ,But I dare say parts would be on top of that .

This is in Adelaide a few months ago, but a friend had her 2004 Boxster S serviced with all you have mentioned, and it was around $3000 at a Porsche specialist tuner. I thought it was a bit rich, but I wouldn't have a clue with servicing costs.

Wow, at a specialist too. That price seems excessive even for a dealer. Wonder if she had air oil separator replaced in that quote.

I had a 2007 987 S auto serviced 5 or 6 times from 2013 to 2000 at a Porsche indy. Always  around $1000 for minor and $2000 major. And a bit added here n there for extra "repairs" (sensors, brakes etc) added onto those services. I would expect those service costs now to be 30 - 50% extra. Hope that helps you mate.
