Lucky Phil Posted 6September, 2022 Report Share Posted 6September, 2022 Seems to work well. Harry Metcalfe once used it on one of his engines. I think it was when the Lambo was with Iain Tyrrell for a rebuild.
WGA Posted 6September, 2022 Report Share Posted 6September, 2022 When I was living in Europe, I had my 964 RS ice blasted. Came up a treat. Almost like brand new. Here are some photos of the before and after. The after shots were taken before the "golden grease" was reapplied to the relevant areas as per the factory. Unfortunately, I don't know anybody locally that I could recommend. Adam.B

I found a few places in NSW, but absolutely nothing in QLD. looks like a road to Sydney

spiller Posted 7September, 2022 Report Share Posted 7September, 2022 I would love to do this to my GT3 but unfortunately no one in Adelaide (that I know of) has invested in the machinery as of yet. Does anyone know what this type of work typically costs? 3legs

I have heard reports of costs being approximately $1500 for an engine Dry Ice clean, and approximately $3000 for a full car underbody Dry Ice detail including all suspension, engine etc. Ymmv. 3legs Posted 9September, 2022 Report Share Posted 9September, 2022 There used to be a guy here in Adelaide about 10 years ago and when I rang him he said he sold his equipment to someone interstate. He said it just wasn't profitable enough to make it a stand alone business because of the cost of the dry ice and the availability of the ice. From memory he said he used to charge around $1k for the engine and under the body. I would love to get mine done but yeah I reckon there would be a very limited market for it and I'm certainly not driving interstate to get it done because you know Murphy's law, it will rain on the trip home and there will be road works that you have to drive through dirt as part of the detour and will undo all that good work. Adam.B Posted 9September, 2022 Author Report Share Posted 9September, 2022 I’m looking to book mine in Nov, booking are tight. There was/is a guy down south (McLaren vale/Willunga area I think) who was doing mobile vapour blasting. Maybe that could work, or he may know someone who does the dry ice treatment? Will try n find his number spiller and Adam.B
MFX Posted 9September, 2022 Report Share Posted 9September, 2022 I have considered it, but even if you get your own machine I think the main issue is the pelleted dry ice is so expensive it really makes the whole exercise too costly to justify for essentially a good clean. In all honestly I think once it’s done, it will be much easier to maintain if you come across the odd shower here or there. The issue in my case is the cosmoline needs to be taken off in order to make the occasional underbody wash even worthwhile. My cup car has no cosmoline and every so often I get it up on the stands and it comes up like new with minimal effort. 3legs and Adam.B
