Dry Ice Cleaning

When I was living in Europe, I had my 964 RS ice blasted. Came up a treat. Almost like brand new. Here are some photos of the before and after. The after shots were taken before the "golden grease" was reapplied to the relevant areas as per the factory. Unfortunately, I don't know anybody locally that I could recommend.

I would love to do this to my GT3 but unfortunately no one in Adelaide (that I know of) has invested in the machinery as of yet. Does anyone know what this type of work typically costs?

Expensive :)

How Much Does Dry Ice Cleaning Cost?

The cost of cleaning with dry ice will depend on the application, equipment needed, and the project involved. The costs for blasting and cleaning services will also vary depending on the surfaces that need to be cleaned and the work required. At Cold Jet, our dry ice pricing is tailored to the individual requirements of each project. If you’d like to learn more about Cold Jet’s cleaning services costs, get in touch with our friendly team today for a quote on your next cleaning project.

I also understand it's rather expensive.

I have heard reports of costs being approximately $1500 for an engine Dry Ice clean, and approximately $3000 for a full car underbody Dry Ice detail including all suspension, engine etc.

For a tight arse like me, that’s not gonna fly. Looks like the cosmoline will live to fight another day.

There used to be a guy here in Adelaide about 10 years ago and when I rang him he said he sold his equipment to someone interstate. He said it just wasn't profitable enough to make it a stand alone business because of the cost of the dry ice and the availability of the ice.

From memory he said he used to charge around $1k for the engine and under the body.

I would love to get mine done but yeah I reckon there would be a very limited market for it and I'm certainly not driving interstate to get it done because you know Murphy's law, it will rain on the trip home and there will be road works that you have to drive through dirt as part of the detour and will undo all that good work.

There was/is a guy down south (McLaren vale/Willunga area I think) who was doing mobile vapour blasting. Maybe that could work, or he may know someone who does the dry ice treatment?

Will try n find his number

In all honestly I think once it’s done, it will be much easier to maintain if you come across the odd shower here or there. The issue in my case is the cosmoline needs to be taken off in order to make the occasional underbody wash even worthwhile. My cup car has no cosmoline and every so often I get it up on the stands and it comes up like new with minimal effort.
