D-banger Posted 8June, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 8June, 2013 You can buy an aftermarket dial known as the 'fifty five fathoms' to create the blancpain homage with these Seiko watches. They look fantastic. The dial costs $35 to purchase, a few bucks for appropriate hands and then to have a watchmaker fit the dial and hands another $40 "Homage", "automatic", "manual"... It is just like talking about cars
D-banger Posted 8June, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 8June, 2013 This my Speedy Date from the 1990s. These are great value and can be had for around $1000 which is a quarter of the price of a new version now. Thank you....nothing too expensive there, I just like some nice dressy watches. The white face watch is a "Swiss Military" by Chrono. Cheers! Nice ones. Chronographs and cars do go together.
withers Posted 8June, 2013 Report Share Posted 8June, 2013 They sure do Doug. I like the Swiss military one that Caver has, it's very clean looking. Nice!
withers Posted 11June, 2013 Report Share Posted 11June, 2013 Here's a groovy little Heuer I just found for sale. Unfortunately with the Aud dropping now, some of these things don't work out as favourable to us anymore. Disclaimer: I have just posted a link to a world wide watch forum. As with everything, there are dodgy people on this site that scam people. If anyone looks on here with a view to buying, you can get good deals and you can get ripped off. Always 'buy the seller' ask for references, check the references, google the sellers name and email address and if you don't like anything about the seller - walk away! Norm Posted 12June, 2013 Report Share Posted 12June, 2013 I too am a watch tragic. Love mechanical but can't afford most. I would have to say IWC are by far my favourite, followed by Longines and Omega. My day to day watch is a Jorg Gray 6500 chrono
Norm Posted 12June, 2013 Report Share Posted 12June, 2013 This is my next purchase. Meistersinger. Mechanical, German made, simple... Much like the cars we love.
withers Posted 12June, 2013 Report Share Posted 12June, 2013 Meistersinger are great watches Norm I like the single hand versions but I think I'd be late everywhere I went if I used one those to tell the time!

If here, where? Cheers Lee Hey Lee, it's not the Obama version as such, but the same watch minus the signature. I bought mine direct from their website in the US. From memory it was about $550. LeeM Posted 14June, 2013 Report Share Posted 14June, 2013 Man, you lot are just feeding my addiction! Bought 2 'pre loved' in the past 2 days. Another Fossil for $45 and a stainless G Shock G 511D I've really got to stop this
Norm Posted 14June, 2013 Report Share Posted 14June, 2013 I find this little gem on eBay some years ago.. Mechanical, large face, 47mm i think with domed sapphire glass... I now for the best bit.. it was only about $350! The last time i looked they had gone up considerably, so i was either lucky or they had just commenced business. Funny thing is i've never researched the manufacturer. I was just happy with my purchase. Although because of the size, its only a going out watch that i would wear with a long sleeve shirt. D-banger Posted 14June, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 14June, 2013 @norm: nice one. Good pick up. That watch looks very interesting and complex. You must have reasonable sized wrists to accommodate such a large face. Generally people think Swiss, but look how much a Lange is. @amanda: day date? I don't wear yellow gold BUT for some reason I'm really drawn to an 1803! In reality, I'd be more likely to get a 1603 Datejust - same era just in SS and erm Cheaper! Thanks Bruce!
