tazzieman Posted 12March, 2015 Report Share Posted 12March, 2015 Rather badly written off and presumably a UK import? I imagine bad karma is attached to any salvageable spare parts!

Coastr Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 Bent targa is bent - check out the gap between 1/4 window and screen frame It has taken a very hard hit - I don't think I'd be touching any parts on this car. Even looks like the wing came off in the impact - or maybe the towing.
rpmracing025@hotmail.com Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 Whats an '87 targa widebody conversion car worth? This one has a bunch of 930 bits and the g50 box for $50k ? looks the part.... http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-911-Carrera-1987/SSE-AD-3282511/?Cr=3 ? Going up at Manheim Auctions http://www.manheim.com.au/damaged-vehicles/4309679/1988-porsche-911--997--targa-4-targa?referringPage=SearchResults Looks like a genuine 930 Targa to me, not many of them around. Will make big dollars purely on parts value.
Coastr Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 Why though? The fact that it is a rare targa means nothing because it is destroyed. Only the engine parts are salvageable - maybe - would you buy suspension / brakes parts from that wreck? It doesn't even have the right wheels. It's clearly been sitting in the weather for a while. Sure you could take the VIN and fit it to a normal Targa with a lot of bits, but would it be worth it? Is anyone going to pay top dollar for a VIN rebuild? tazzieman Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 buy this one and swap the engine - everything else is already there..... http://www.carsales....D-3282511/?Cr=3 Methinks the wrecked car's engine might be no good. Probably went backwards a bit, whilst still in a forward gear... And the snail ended up in the driver's lap

And the snail ended up in the driver's lap Right. Even if it didn't go backwards, it took a big hit of longitudinal Gs, which it wasn't designed to do. Would anyone want an engine dropped from a first story building onto the end of the gearbox? No, didn't think so. Then we get to the part where it sits in the weather, with the turbo removed. I don't think someone thoughtfully taped up the intake and exhaust where the turbo was. You're basically buying a case and some manifolds, and a lottery ticket that the crank and cams and rods aren't stuffed.

BTW, that plate would suit me fine if I bought the car...
tazzieman Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 That green 32v looks pretty nice. The earlier 16v ones are quite simple , like a 911 with a radiator. Nothing intimidating at all. Rob

tazzieman Posted 13March, 2015 Report Share Posted 13March, 2015 On a side note , the car shows of the future won't have a "show us your engine" segment. I find that most disappointing as , well, the engine is what makes it not a horse. That , and wheels. KGB
