rafikdous Posted 17December, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 17December, 2017 Had to clean this hardened black silicon off the front screen. Scraper didn’t do it so a spatula and a hammer. That was hard to do risking a crack or breakage. All done now ready for fitting today looks like last registration was around 1998

rafikdous Posted 19December, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 19December, 2017 Glass guy turned up today but that’s where the good news stopped. Spent about half hour swearing then said, I will have to come back for it after you put the rubber on and leave it to sit for few days so now nothing will happen till two weeks into the new year at least gave me a reason to take the car out of the garage for the first time in 9 months
Raven Posted 19December, 2017 Report Share Posted 19December, 2017 Sorry to hear about the glass guy , you would think he could have told you prior to arriving to leave the rubber out or put it in hot water to soften it up , ,,but on a positive the car looks amazing well done

rafikdous Posted 29March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 Haven't updated this since before Christmas but work has been progressing Managed to crack the front windscreen while forcing the trim into the rubber, ouch So went back to finishing off the interior as much as I can now without fitting anything that I will need to remove later to fit the screens Sorted out some wiring issues Fitted the sill trims. Pics are not great, difficult to get decent ones at close range
rafikdous Posted 29March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 Fitted the driver seat because she's off to get the engine and gearbox done then she was off to the shop The compression test results came back concerning #1 =100% #2 =100% #3 =75% #4 =50% #5 =0% #6 =0% When I bought it, I got the usual "engine was running fine before being dropped"!!! So the tare down started
rafikdous Posted 29March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 You know you have an issue when the head is missing a valve, right? And also when you have a hole in the barrel Look closely, new Porsche technology, valve and barrel fully integrated Rather than being told "the engine was running fine before being dropped", I should've been told the "engine was running fine before it dropped a valve" So full rebuild it is then Crank, cams and rods have been checked. No damage Heads have been sent away to get them redone and new valve guides put in New rings purchased Carbies getting redone
ANF Posted 29March, 2018 Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 Hmmm, that all sounds very familiar! Except my valve just got VERY bent, after it gouged the bore! Well done and good luck! No damage to your bore?
rafikdous Posted 29March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 No damage to the bore. The fact that it lodged itself into the barrel saved further damage

Russ Posted 29March, 2018 Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 hah, talk about luck with the valve embedding the head into the piston my old man had a VW engine that did the same thing, except it took some of the remnants and ran them across to the other cylinders too for good measure

My valve stem did a "porting" job on the intake port with the bits going back into the plenum and then distributed to the other 7 cylinders.... much fun, and full rebuild in progress.... Coastr Posted 29March, 2018 Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 #5 and #6 had no compression - what was with the other cylinder? I could never bare-faced lie like that to someone I was selling a car. 'Ran when parked' as opposed to 'ran when the valve dropped then I parked it'
Raven Posted 29March, 2018 Report Share Posted 29March, 2018 Good work ,,,great to see some more progress on this resto .............All things considered the engine could have been much worse and that shouldn,t be a major issue to fix ,i know is Piss you off when people BS but it is good to see every thing else is in good order ,,,,,Jeffs engine form Home build was one of the worse I have ever seen and this seems pretty straight forward compared to the criminal work done to his ... looking forward to seeing more well done ....
