So I arrived in Bowral for a PITSTOP .. best coffee @MFX place but watch out he will video you whilst you drink it !!

So there are a few threads on here and wanted to piece together the next part of my trip

Firstly .. suggestions of going round or through Sydney??

1. Putty Road.. then to the back of the hunter ?

2. Maitland to where my friends?  Wauchope?

Then comes the more difficult bit  .. Port Area .. there doesnt seem too many options for further north without the highways , untill Grafton

Suggestions welcome

@symsy how for do you want to go? There is a Porsche GTS app that has quite a few routes in Australia and some nice looking ones in the area. Putty road would be awesome but how about a trip out to Bathurst, two laps of the track and then a blast out to Hill end - it was the only "drive" route out there I could find and looks pretty good and then you could head towards singleton/Muswellbrook along the Bylong Valley way. Looks like a great but long loop.

You can do Putty road but it's only 80k limit and the wallopers will be out

You can make your way to Gloucester and take the Thunderbolts way you will end up at Walcha I'm sure you can find your way back to Belengen and head north to Lismore

It's the weekend mate so you won't get out of third gear.

Symsy,

My first suggestion would be:Bowral, Taralga, Jenolan Caves, Mt Victoria, Colo Heights, Muswellbrook, Tamworth, Walcha, Wauchope & Port Macquarie

This will give you the following highlights: Jenolan Caves Road, Bells Line of Road, Putty Road and after a long transport stage, the Oxley Highway.  Google maps say 12 hours 44 minutes and 991km.

The weekend is not the best time to do most of the above roads as they will be busy and frustration.  However, mid week is a different story with all but Bells being deserted.

I can't help you after Port Macquarie as I don't know the backroads.

If you want to go north via The Tramshed at Harold Park and the Gosford motor museum/Coffee & Cars and given it's virtually a long weekend with Anzac Day and the traffic won't be conducive to seeking out some of the roads above, my suggestion is to cut your losses and save some of those roads until next time and just do this route:

Bowral, Harold Park, Gosford then straight up the M1 to Hexham and then either:

1) Turn off the Pacific Highway just north of Raymond Terrace onto Bucketts Way and follow the road onto Thunderbolts Way until Walcha and then take the Oxley Highway to Port Macquarie.  Thunderbolts Way used to be fun but is now very rough in sections and is now really only a scenic shortcut to the New England area.

OR

2) Continue on the Pacific Highway until Bulahdelah, turn off into the town and follow the old road (called Wotton Way) to re-join the highway just north of the town to then take you to Wauchope and then the Oxley Highway to Walcha. Wotton Way and the Oxley are the only highlights of this trip.

Have a look at Gloucester to Walcha to Uralla (hwy) to Armidale to Ebor to Nymboida to Grafton.

Last time I did Armidale, Ebor, Grafton was 1983 and was dirt from Nymboida to Ebor. Checking on Google it looks like it is now tar.  Could be worth checking.

I can't help you after Port Macquarie as I don't know the backroads.

If you are going to go that way, you can do a crazy rally stage from Bowral along Wombeyan Caves road which comes out at Taralga Rd. Twisties for days, the only problem is it is dirt...

Symsy,

I'm on my way south from Gold Coast.  Tried to visit Chris at B'Bong but he moved to Brisbane to avoid meeting me.  Tried to meet you at the bong but you collected a car you bought months ago to avoid me.

I'm staying at Taree tonight, so perhaps we can hookup some how with Tingy944.....

From Port you could head up to Walcha, now that road will put a smile on your face. You could then join the new england all the way up to Glen Innes before heading back across to Grafton then maybe drive the summerland way up to Casino then across to Byron.

I would be happy to do a run up to Gingers creek Cafe, that is about 2 thirds of the way to Walcha.

Has anyone been on Thuderbolts

Wife drove down it on Friday and said it has been freshly pothole patched and some of the worst section resurfaced and reckons it in the best condition she has seen for a while.

I was crossing the bridge to catch @Symsy and co at the tramsheds and saw they had closed the bridge and a huge convey of armoured cars and police were heading north and thought it must have been a Symsy royal escort!!!

All good the boys were still there for coffee it was just some yank heading over to Kirribilli ?

IMG_1081_zpsaki12nlx.jpg

Good to catch up, great looking GT3 and maybe an escort bigger than tha Macan next time you cross the bridge @symsy..

hope the rest of the trip was full of good twisting roads

Yes the Armidale to Wauchope road is great (via Walcha).

And also the range back towards the coast (to Grafton I think) is great.

Sadly I've done neither road in my old 911, rather my daily drives.

Best to do these roads sooner than later because the do gooders are still trying to drop the speed limit to 80

Own local crew will be having a drive day in the coming weeks, this drive being one of our fav's could be on the list.

Anyone interested in joining, let me know & I can inform you of details once I have them.
