Ditto James.

The 996 TT has been regularly referred to as a "sleeper" and amazing bang for your buck.

You know I'm gonna strap myself into your passenger seat on a SMT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No problems Theo,

just go light on the breaky, we don't want any unexpected surprises ha ha ha.

+ 1 on the polo engined 912.

2.4 litre for me :D

Chris pomares had just listed it for sale...for an eye watering $165,000. Might have captured the zeitgeist...but far more than the sum of its parts. Perhaps aspirational, needless it didnt sell.

I have been in conversation with Dean Polopoulos about a 2.4 Motor and the price shipped to Australia is actually quite tempting.

I like the idea of a 912 with a Polo in it, total project would come in under 80k..........I'd never see that money again but I suspect I'd never sell it either. He even offerred to ship the motor in a car for me as he had one sitting there if I was interested!!

Yep, the 996 GT3's are now coming into affordable pricing.

Theres a Yellow 'Club Sport' one that I'd quite like..............Ooooooh the noise. What a Noise.

Yes, I have been watching like a hawk. Around $100k can get you a nice 996 GT3.

I like this one  http://www.pcv.com.au/PorscheClubs/pc_victoria/pc_main.nsf/web/260B21B38786C54AC1257A570020773D#pagetop

The 3.6 997 is just starting to drift into the $150s.

Will be interesting to see what the 991 GT3 does to prices.

Yeah I have been watching that one too.  There was a nice black 996 GT3 Mk1 for sale in Canberra for similar money.  Sold or withdrawn?

I've been told the Mk 2 is a 'better' car, but I think the Mk 1 will be more collectible due to it being a homologation version and limited delivery numbers.

no doubt the 996 GT3 prices will drop once the 997 GT3 is released, then drift lower every year to sub 100k like the 996's have.

But do you think that prices will just keep dropping, even on the limited edition cars like the GT3?  In the past there was a depreciation curve down, but at some point for 'collectible' cars that curve flattened and then started to appreciate as desirability and limited supply were factored in.  Who remembers when 964 RS Oz delivered for less than $100k?  Is the 996 GT3 Mk1 the next 964 RS?

i think the 996 GT3 prices will stabilise at some point, but not yet. look at turbo prices, you cant buy a 993TT for under 100k and i doubt many have changed hands at that price either. there are a dozen 996's TT's for sale under 100k, no doubt a better car in terms of chassis, brakes, gearbox etc but not a true collectors car or have that desireability, just yet!

Hope you are right, Doug.

Not so sure about the 996 GT3 Mk 1 being a collector.

With so many models pushing it down line.

The 996 GT3 RS, yes.

With 997 GT3s now in the $150s, I was trying to think of any other Porsche special that is worth 50% of its new price before the next version has been released.

Anyone ?

Hi Vas,

When I was looking at 997 gt3's about 12 months ago. There was a couple that ended up in the 140k mark. Interestingly all the cars above that at the time are still for sale......

That white one does look quite nice.

Thanks, Chris.

That's very interesting.

The white one is a nice car, but its the touring version.

Can't see much dif in the price between the touring and club sport.

Would rather the CS.

What do you think ?

Still not sure which way to go.

This http://www.pcv.com.au/PorscheClubs/pc_victoria/pc_main.nsf/web/260B21B38786C54AC1257A570020773D#pagetop

would do the job.

However, I like the look of the 997.

Not sure if the better looks and little bit more performance is worth the extra $50k.

This 996 is all set up and ready to go. :)

Hi Vas,

I would take either the CS or touring. Would bother me. Both awesome cars. My research suggested that 997 is light years in front of the 996 version. But I understand the comment given the big price difference.

I drove a white one last year that PCB had for sale. They were asking too much for it but just wanted to see what they were like.

Very nice car, funny though I didn't feel as connected as I do in the 993 especially now I have the suspension etc done.

Still on my list though as one I would have !

i was lucky enough to swap my car with a mate's 997 GT3 CS last year.

Was one hell of a week driving that machine!

It was actually quite easy to drive about town, except for the ground clearance (especially the entry angle), which made speed humps around Collingwood and ramp access to my work carpark very difficult and annoying. However i appreciate it is not really designed for city daily driving, and image it would be fantastic on the track.

The excelleration (and associated exhaust note with the sport button turned on) was amazing.

I actually enjoyed getting back into my car for the sense of driver engagement that you need to drive it. Would love to have both, however happy with what I have for many $ less.

As it happens my mate has recently traded in the GT3 for a new Boxter, so looking forward to hearing what he thinks.

Hi Mike,

That's interesting re the driver engagement, that's exactly what I found. When I tested one last year. I had taken mine to PCB and getting straight back in mine to drive home, noticed just how much more connected to the car I felt in mine. As you say the GT3 was awesome as far as acceleration etc but was just missing that driver engagement feel. Not that I didn't love it, thought it was awesome.

Would still have one and probably will one day! :)
