Pork Chops Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 Any recommendations? Got to store about 40 tyres / rims plus need a trolley jack for the 911s some of which are LOW! Cheers.
DJM Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 That’s some collection you’re amassing! Arcan 1.8T trolley jack from Costco gets under low cars and is good. Covered elsewhere on the forum. A few people have them including me. Not sure Costco always stock them but this is it: https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/1-8T-Arcan-Hydraulic-Alloy-Low-Entry-Service-Trolley-Jack-Aluminium-1800KG/151312560092
TrevMcRev Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 Ring ring.... "Welcome to Pork Chops Tyres, how can I help you?" "yeah i'm after a price for some tyres for my hyundai..." Click "hello...?" Maybe buy a tyre shop and keep em there? It'll pay it's own way... https://www.businessforsale.com.au/australia/8dc4366f/Car-Tyre-Biz-124k-Profit-63-Roi-Se-Melbourne-Yre7313-For-Sale
symsy Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 Think we did this somewhere else. I bought one of these on recommendation from a commercial tyre fit guy , waited till on special at $269 Compared to my old one , half the weight even though both alu , great entry height for 911s does GT3 no probs. e.g https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bahco-Lightweight-Aluminium-Racing-Hydraulic-Trolley-Jack-2000kg-BH1AOZ2000/222880252643?epid=873737988&hash=item33e4b2c2e3:g:m8YAAOSweDdapz6c I also have these , which I have used many time on the journey although the new jack fits most things now.. I fricken love em , wash em down when you get oil on them, dont break your toe when you dancing in your garage with ya thongs on and if you kick em walking by, very light weight and can be chucked in the back of your car etc for any occasion. Again , you might hunt around , I did get mine on special. Tyre racks cant help , a welder and custom is your friend perhaps, I used to have a shit load of wheels , my only tip , got sick of lifting them .. Pork Chops Posted 26March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 Thanks guys. These seem pretty good for tyre storage. You can get a version that has shelves too so your storage shelves look the same as your tyre shelves, thus satisfying your OCD. https://falconshelving.com.au/collections/2-5m-wide-5 Will look into the trolley jack options. Cheers. Thoughts on this? $189 delivered and lifts 3 ton. Is there $200 more value in Symsy's recommendation? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3TON-Super-Low-Profile-Hydraulic-Car-Trolley-DUAL-PUMP-3T-Floor-Jack-75-505mm/311434569026?hash=item4882f26542:g:FnUAAOSw-b9auGvX
Raven Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 At that price why wouldn,t you buy those tire racks that pretty good value ... Try to go for a light weight alloy trolley jack I have both heavy duty 4T steel and an alloy liht weight 2T low clearance race type trolley jack like what the guys posted above ,,,and that,s the one I use 98% of the time ,,the other on is to heavy and bulky .. Redracn Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 I have a couple of Bacho AL 2T (as above) and have had no issues with them and they are my go to jack for all but the 4x4. Light enough to toss in the car etc. My low 3T steel on the other hand is difficult to move even on concrete. I made my own racks for about 20 tyres. Problem I found was they would spend too long in the rack aging. With race tyres my storage is mainly for rims as I don't see the point in using over 4year old tyres with a forgotten history. With 40 you will need a good tracking system.
jakroo Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 Just remember that if you have a shelf at 2.7m (or thereabouts) off the ground, you need to lift the tyre about that same height to store it or lift the tyre and not drop it to use it. Tyres are heavy and awkward. You can also cut the vertical posts and use the 'off-cuts'. Careful cutting of the 4 verticals will yield 2 x 1.35m tall shelf units. You'll still have 4 shelves but nothing higher than waist height.
Jason A Posted 26March, 2018 Report Share Posted 26March, 2018 I have the same racking as the shop picture, 400mm deep - brought it at Bunnings. I have about 12 sets, across 3 levels - works great. Just add on for more, I have 3 bays wide. Jack - alloy race jack, very low stepped front. Bought it from performance wholesale a long time ago

spiller Posted 27March, 2018 Report Share Posted 27March, 2018 I always liked the tyre racks that mount to the wall. Particularly useful when garage space is at a premium. Anyone seen these advertised?
LeeM Posted 27March, 2018 Report Share Posted 27March, 2018 Have seen a tyre rack frame that's attached to the wall with dynabolts or screwed into the joists. Have a couple of hinges or chain to hold it in place, then folds away back to the wall if not required. Very neat, light and looks great made from square alloy tube
