johnpeen Posted 18December, 2021 Report Share Posted 18December, 2021 Every day I ride past a dusty, sad-looking 911 a few blocks away. I don't really know my Porsches. I would, however, dearly love to own one after a delightful rental experience earlier this year. Can anyone help me identify the type and year? I am seriously considering going door-to-door till I find the owner and perhaps see if his car is for sale. I have no idea how this would transpire - but I'm willing to give it a go. Any advice would be much appreciated.
MARTY Posted 18December, 2021 Report Share Posted 18December, 2021 That just needs a clean I’ve seen worse (it’s a 996.1)I remember a 964 in south Melbourne that was just parked up for ages that had messages on the windscreen with people wanting to buy it eventually it disappeared.Maybe check the plates online to see if any rego has been paid on it? Maybe check the plates online to see if any rego has been paid on it? Thanks. That was so straightforward, I feel rather embarrassed. So it's a 2002 996.1 with current registration. I'm pretty sure the owner is still keen on it, maybe just needs a hand with the soap and water. MARTY
JWM Posted 18December, 2021 Report Share Posted 18December, 2021 Actually that’s a 996.2. Nice colour (under the filth). Maybe a note under the wiper? Raven
3legs Posted 19December, 2021 Report Share Posted 19December, 2021 Judging by those discs it hasn't been driven for a little while.
Fishcop Posted 19December, 2021 Report Share Posted 19December, 2021 996.2 in Lapis Blue. Is it manual or auto? If you're keen, make sure you do your due diligence - there may be a mechanical reason it's been parked up so long...
Joz Posted 19December, 2021 Report Share Posted 19December, 2021 Start with a message under the wipers. I tried that on A local car which I thought was in a similar situation. wasn’t for sale 🤷♂️
johnpeen Posted 19December, 2021 Author Report Share Posted 19December, 2021 Great advice, everyone. Even if it was for sale, I would scarcely know where to start in terms of price and inspection. I'll drop a friendly note on the windscreen tomorrow when I ride past again. Let's see what happens.

With what it's worth as it is, tell him to flog it off and buy his son a nice Corolla or Hyundai and pocket some change 3legs and GC9911
DT Posted 25December, 2021 Report Share Posted 25December, 2021 That poor 996, looks like it’s been through a nuclear war. The lights look like they’ve been eaten by acid. How/why would anyone let a 911 get in such a state? 3legs
Jim45 Posted 25December, 2021 Report Share Posted 25December, 2021 Service NSW shows that 996 rego expired in May 2020. Also has a condition code "87 MODIFIED AS PER REPORT NUMBER - MMA3130MP. REPAIRS. 28-07-2009" Whatever that means.. What a fkn waste.
