Sold: 914/6 GT Tribute

Recommended Posts

After much deliberation over an extended period of time, listing my 914/6 GT Tribute.

Started life as a standard 914, now would be the closest-to-original 914/6 GT Tribute in Australia.

Requires motor to complete the build (914/6 stamped long motor included in the sale).

Details

  • Sunflower Yellow (factory colour)
  • Bare metal restoration by Jason Carroll at Chequered Flag Restorations
  • 15 x7” and 15 x8” original Fuchs (restored, anodised and detailed) with new tyres

Exterior

  • Backdated steel bumpers (with custom cutout section in front bar for top of oil cooler radiator).
  • Oil cooler, plumbing and oil radiator
  • GT steel flares
  • Through bonnet fuel filler
  • Repro 914/6 GT front bonnet pins & rear boot rubber fasteners
  • Steel front and rear valance panels with steel flared extensions (to match wheel arch flares)
  • Steel scuttle panels with steel flared extensions (to match wheel arch flares)
  • 914/6 VW Porsche Badge
  • Repro GT rear engine lid grill (full grill)
  • Early space saver wheel & tyre
  • Early Webster tyre compressor
  • 914/6 GT chassis stiffening kit
  • Engine mount for 911 motor installed
  • Reproduction 914/6 GT race livery (this was the build inspiration- see last photo)

Interior

  • BF Torino Rallye ST seats x2 (floor runners changed)
  • Momo Prototipo steering wheel
  • Reproduction GT roll bar half hoop
  • Sabelt 4-point harness seat belts
  • Dashboard- Porsche speedo, and Porsche engine gauges (10000 RPM tacho) included (not currently installed)
  • Repro GT dash centre mounted fuel gauge with mount
  • Lightweight carpet set
  • Repro GT door cards plus and door handles/pulls
  • New rubber seals throughout

Engine/Mechanicals

  • 914/6 stamped engine case, 2.0 6 cylinder long motor with rebuilt heads
  • Original 5 speed 914 side shifter gearbox
  • Repro 914/6 GT Heat exchangers
  • Repro 914/6 engine tinware
  • Repro GT fuel lines
  • New MSD ignition

I commenced a build thread on PFA but didn't keep up with it, see link below-

Have further photos of the restoration process for seriously interested buyers.

Price: $120,000 including period correct 914/6 stamped long motor to complete what is entering a 6 year build time.

The build cost including a solid base 914 has exceeded the sale price- you could not build a car of this quality at this price.

Will separate motor if you may have your own or wish to instal something larger.

Cheers

Craig (Melbourne)

Deposit paid 👌🏻 returning to the air cooled fold.

I’d been considering a 1000kg/200hp ish, rear drive, weekender.  Back to my Datsun days as a youngster.  Maybe drop top.  A counterpoint to the GT4RS.  I had considered all sorts of options.   Slow car fast vibes.

So I’m now looking forward to seeing the first and last (?) mid engined Porsche (combustion engined) production road cars side by side, in GT form, in my garage soon.

kudos to @crsedge for convincing me to go have a look and for his obvious passion for the detail, it’s better than factory.

This helped the decision  😁

Great outcome for both of you!

Yes it is true, the 914/6 Tribute has a new custodian!

Congrats Doug- keen to take you up on the offer of a drive once you have finished the resto journey.

I also look forward to seeing the photo of the 914/6 alongside the GT4RS- as you say, the bookends of mid-engine Porsches :)
