Russ Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 have we confirmed it's written off? do 964's have the VIN in the windscreen pillar? or is it on the rego label in VIC?
clutch-monkey Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 yup definitely parts. i don't know that the motor would be 15k, provided it wasn't parked because it had blown up i think you'd be surprised with a clean up and some ancillaries replaced. engine clean up could be a good side project for someone. on the flip side i reckon the interior might shock you for more than 3k haha. Russ Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 I reckon if the bores aren't too bad it could be pulled apart cleaned and freshened up with some seals/bearings pretty cheap (I'm prepared to DIY - I figure if I can rebuild a VW engine, a Porsche engine can't be too much different with some extra cams and a few extra cylinders, it'll need all the same tools) remove the interior and put in some racing seats and "RS" the interior similar to clutch-monkey's, cut off the clear coat and plasti-dip it (might even go to the extent of pulling the sub frames and doing some rust protection) remove all the wiring and ECU, buy aftermarket ECU to run it. clean up all the connectors/fuse box/ignition etc replace all the bushes, do the brakes, and any other things that need doing - pull the gearbox split it and clean it out, then put new fluid in and drive it I reckon with a years work of 'shed work' in downtimes, I could have it a going concern again for not too much money - and if it's something catastrophic like failed timing chains or broken crank or gearbox either part it or use my powers of finding cheap deals to put it back together. I reckon I could do it for $15-$20k in parts I may have thought about this a fair bit!

CarreraG50 Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 Well Russ, I have a mate with a car trailer and a T5 who will tow it back cheap. Oh yeah and once you have it on the road for $20k, I'll buy a half share.

edgy Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 This reminds me of the yellow impact bumper car that I saw in Bangkok.. also just sitting on the foot path in front of someones driveway/property.. it also looked like it was dragged out of a swamp. Very surreal! It makes you wonder about the story of the car AND more importantly, where the rightful owners mindset is!

withers Posted 4June, 2013 Report Share Posted 4June, 2013 haha the "sad and abandoned porsches" thread on PParts is full of moments like that! Thankfully we only have 1 car in our thread!!! although I know of a DD Cab with a rear window falling out - driven rain or shine like that. God knows what the back seat is like. I want to put a note in his window that simply says - YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF THIS AUTOMOBILE - but now that I've posted this here, I won't be doing that! Guest hepkat63 Posted 24December, 2013 Report Share Posted 24December, 2013 what ever happened about this ? Did anyone ever get serious with enquiry and/or get this car?
Norm Posted 30December, 2013 Report Share Posted 30December, 2013 Yeah, I just read through the whole thread (been absent for a few months) and found it very interesting. Other neighbours, not the cranky one, must know who owns it..? I find it interesting how people think and process information. I mean, even if it had a seized engine and / or flood damage, and the owner didn't have insurance, it is still money just sitting there..! Why wouldn't you contact wrecker or P specialist and something for it?? Doing something is better than just leaving it there. And if the owner is reasonably 'cashed up' and doesn't care, then it's an eyesore for other residence seeing a car just rot away.. Ahhhh don't know.. Without speaking to the owner, I suppose we won't know why it's sitting there. Another possibility is the owner is no longer with us and the widow can't bare to part with it??? As you said, people process information in interesting ways The speculation is always fun tho!
withers Posted 31December, 2013 Report Share Posted 31December, 2013 Although it does amaze me that it hasn't been stolen... but if the brakes are seized on, its rather hard to even get on a tilt tray if no spinning wheels?
Russ Posted 31December, 2013 Report Share Posted 31December, 2013 dragging it onto a tow truck will probably free up the brakes, or they use those 'ready jacks' and roll it round to line it up PFA project car? lol
martin Posted 31December, 2013 Report Share Posted 31December, 2013 I passed it yesterday i stopped to have a look looks like parts are starting to go missing on it,i left a note on the windscreen with my number on it if the owner wants to sell it (the wife wasn't happy).Could it have just been dumped???? i am sure the rego is well out of date it didn't look like it had been changed for a bit. Guest hepkat63 Posted 31December, 2013 Report Share Posted 31December, 2013 It's been a long time since I lived in Melbourne, however when I did - there was a law stating that you could not leave an unregistered car on a public road - or it would be towed away. The old trick (don't ask me how i know this... i just do..) was to take some plates (any plates) from another car and put them on it as not too many council by-laws officers could be bothered reading rego labels. I think this might be what has happened in this case. Further, being a Porsche, it is probably less of an eyesore that the old rusty holden or ford. My guess is one day it will magically 'disappear' and Russr, you're right - it would
LeeM Posted 2January, 2014 Report Share Posted 2January, 2014 Man, what are these people on leaving a car, or any car like this to just sit there and rot? I was driving past a block of units just before Christmas, and there was a Ferrari sitting on the front lawn with a for sale sign on it. Don't ask me which model, it was kinda Testarossa looking with a rag top. Did a quick U turn to have a squiz. Wow did I get a shock at it's condition!! Rust everywhere, one side of the interior absolutely knackered from the rag top leaking, dents everywhere (not 'dints you Vic's!) and just a heap of junk that didn't run. Not too mention one of the biggest damn spiders I've ever seen!! I offered the older Italian gent $10k to get it out of his yard that day. I'd break it down to sell for parts ofcourse. He can keep the prehistoric sized bastard spider though! I thought he was going to take it, then the daughter came out and said $40k 'Coz it's a fully sick Ferrari maaaaaaate' (I kid you not, she actually said that!) I upped it to $15k then walked when he said $35k no offers. Regardless of what brand of car it was, it IS a classic sports car that deserves better treatment. It has now disappeared from street view not long after I saw it. People should be forced to either dispose of, or at least hide these cars from others that actually appreciate then for what they are.
