Hi Everyone,

I need help putting an approximate price on my 911 to basically just see what it's worth as it stands.

I imported it from California, and it is currently still left hand drive. It is registered as a 1977 Porsche 911, however this is only the chassis and VIN, the body has been completely (and properly) replaced with an authentic 993 Turbo Aero body, the engine is now a 'tuned up' 3.2 litre from a newer model Porsche with a sports exhaust (which I believe has had about 40000 kms on it since the changes), and it currently sits on a brand new set of chrome Gemballa turbo wheels.

The chassis is currently in process of being made rust free. The interior (white/light creme) is in decent condition with all the seats intact, only a single crack in the dashboard and a momo race wheel. With regard to the paintwork it is a deep blue colour with multiple scratches and stone chips and in my personal opinion it is in definite need of a repaint.

Thats the basic specs for the car, there are a couple of cars like this on the internet ranging between 40 and 60 grand but I'm not sure I'd get that (but you never know), if you would like to know anything else in order to value it more precisely just let me know.

Cheers

Hi Porsche Owners !

I have a 993 series Porsche, however it has a fair bit of work to do in order to get it on the road and looking good, and I've been looking for wrecked 'donor' 911's and I have seemed to come across a large number of 996's hence why I just wanted to ask if parts off a 996 will fit on my 993, whether that be the interior, engine, bodywork and subframe/chassis ? If anyone has any input into this it would be much appreciated as I don't want to put my money behind something that won't even fit my car.

Cheers !

Getting a little confused here Mikey.

So it's not a 993 but a 1977 with a Turbo-S body kit and 3.2 motor that you were thinking of using 996 bits for?

Oh, and a US import LHD that is currently having rust cut out of the chassis and in need of a repaint?

Hate to disappoint you Mikey but I'm the last one to sugar coat it. I can't imagine the car being worth more than $30K.

Don't know what it owes you but be cautious as to how much you spend on it if the plan is to sell.

My 2 cents........

I understand completely and forget that part about 996, that was a bit of a premature thought. But I just wanted to see whether itd be worth painting it and swapping it to RHD and doing a couple other bits and pieces or just selling it now considering it doesn't owe me very much at all. And Im not 100% sure on the engine specs but according to the Porsche technician who got it running I could nearly match what it owes me by just selling the engine alone.

Hi Mikey,

Putting a value on a car like this is very hard. The body and mechanicals are critical so more than 1 picture and a list or documentation of the work that has been done to the engine is essential (rebuilt?, kms, mods, who, what, where etc.) - that would help us for a start.

I would suggest if you are serious in obtaining an idea of value for this car you take it to an independent specialist. It is very hard to tell from where I'm sitting and would have to agree with Theo.

Cheers, Hugh.

Hard one to value, but the way I see it a LHD with a standard body in good/excellent condition would be mid to maybe high teens.. Having a 3.2 would definitely add value so maybe another 5k.. I would argue whether the 993 kit would have the same

It really depends what purpose the buyer would want it for.. Parts /donor car or just someone who loves the car for what it is and hence would pay a premium for it....

Real dollars I'd call it at low 20's though

Forgotten the 996 part already!!!!

Need to think about what it would cost you to do the RHD conversion and paint and then what is it worth?

Take the money and run Mikey

Or on the flip side I just keep it to myself and considering it owes me very little, I'll spend a little bit more and just enjoy it for what it is !

Collectibility (rock solid desirability) relates to scarcity and originality as much as specs

Mid year cars are not particularly collectible at this stage, (though the  carrera 3.0 is a standout now due to rarity)

Modifications usually follow the $2 in $1 out ballpark , with some exceptions

To get top dollar you have to find a particular buyer for this much modded car.

Anyone else will look away or knock you back on faults (a shabby paint job is like a Sharapova with pimples let's be honest)

Rust in a California car? Either driven in other states or bad accident repairs/poor care.

Conversion to RHD - I think is around $15k upwards, to perhaps get an extra $ 7-10k value on an original unmodded car . But then it's not original any more!

I'm just not sure who your market is?

Don't spend any more on this car unless you intend to keep it long term , and drive the P out of it! Well , IMO...

20-25k Max.

There is not much market for these cars, except people who don't know anything about Porsches and just "Want One".

Funnily enough it would be worth more if it was bog standard.

You could break it for parts and get about 25k for it.

Here are my thoughts.

It's a 77 you don't have to convert it to RHD. Over 30 years old so just rego it as LHD. You will have to change the headlights to RHD lights and some other stuff to get rego though. There are going to be a number of hoops to jump though to make it happen and it won't come cheap.

As a 77 is a gal body car. So if its got rust it has had a hard life or very poor body work done..

While you may of seen other cars that look like it in the 40+ brackets your car is not playing the same ball game as them. An import that's not had rego in Australia before is worth bugger all. I would say 20K is the very upper bracket when it needs another 5k spent on it to get it up to spec for rego.

FYI My car is a LHD 77 with a turbo efi 3ltr and a lot of good bits on it. If I was offered 40k I would take the money on the spot..

Conversion to RHD will probably knock about $15K off the resale of an otherwise standard car.  It's just not worth doing it now.  The other mods. and condition mean your car would be hard to sell.

If you need to sell, it might be better value parted out.

Just drive it and enjoy.

Nice looker but the money has been spent in the wrong direction. A genuine 1977 911 un-modified would have value as a historic racer. This one is probably for the non-Porsche buyer or a track day special, it is not an enthusiast's car, wrong engine, wrong body. I'd suggest you ask Shannons Insurance to give you an insured value or an auction house price. Your best bet is the non Porsche private market.

Sorry, probably not what you want to hear.

Cheers

Cheers for the comments guys, a lot of you have said 'sorry thats just what I think' or 'thats probably not what you want to hear' but honestly that is what I expected to hear, and I understand the whole originality factor and I'd have to be blind to not realise it has been played with ALOT ! so I've decided that probably the best thing for me is too keep it because at my age just owning something with a Porsche badge is pretty cool and just enjoy it, and in turn if someone did come past one day with the right money then yeah why not ! but for now I'm happy and in no rush to get rid of it :)
