tazzieman Posted 23May, 2019 Author Report Share Posted 23May, 2019 It's fun to watch all of this from the sidelines. I had an absolute hoot driving my '64 Fiat berlina to work and back today. Modern cars are so bloody SLOW Seriously , people cannot drive any more. Took the old man (92 , he's proper old guv) and he remarked he really misses changing gears. Nothing beats the sound and feel of 1st gear on the tree with no synchro! firstone

Redracn Posted 3June, 2019 Report Share Posted 3June, 2019 "saying it was “always learning from our fleet”." translates as "our cars are not ready and currently in beta testing" Another $2.3Billion from investors? Reducing sales? Not going to end well especially when the established car makers who actually do know what they are doing release their upcoming offerings. Raven Posted 3June, 2019 Report Share Posted 3June, 2019 Tesla will ultimately be purchased by one of the major car manufacturers ,,they are just in too much dept ... With other established car makers bring new EV,s to the market Tesla is going to loss out on profits needed to pay some of that debt ... The Tesla product will be out classed by the new established auto maker EV,s and subjected to competition in the EV market ,some thing they currently don,t have at the moment ,I honestly don,t see Tesla surviving on their own ..??? Raven Posted 3June, 2019 Report Share Posted 3June, 2019 I can only imagine the screw ups that will go on with and EV and the Police forgot to charge it last night Boss .............Flat Always driving like a lead foot as they do and less battery life and range............ You can not just pull into a servo to top it up when it is flat ........ Calling off a pursuit due to reduced battery power ......... "GOLD'' When you look inside the laster HWY cars they are full of systems eg lights radio,s onboard data base and camera,s etc that require considerable large amounts of electrical power to run ,,interesting to see how much all those systems will lower the battery range and if the Tesla would cope with the constant running of all those systems ,,pretty sure the last generations of Falcons and Holdens used by them had uprated alternators and electrics to cope with the huge drain on the electrical system .. LeeM Posted 3June, 2019 Report Share Posted 3June, 2019 They're probably told by the gubberment they have to buy a few EV's to set an example for the rest of us. Like the decent crash the cops had here in the Adelaide hills yesterday whilst doing driver training after banging on for the past week that they're cracking down to curb the big road toll this year. They had to keep the engines running at fast idle at crash scenes etc when lights and all systems operating. So Tesla range would be - get to the publicity display, flash some lights etc and back to the depot for a recharge. Redracn

Zelrik911 Posted 13June, 2019 Report Share Posted 13June, 2019 More Serious trouble for Tesla! Subsidies for buying EVs slashed & US gov not allowing cheap Chinese parts. ***** U.S. denies Tesla, GM, Uber 25% Chinese tariff relief WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is expanding efforts to block the use of Chinese technology in advanced vehicles, denying additional requests by Tesla Inc for tariff relief on key components of its electric vehicles, and rejecting ride-hailing company Uber’s petition to waive tariffs on electric scooters and at least 50 separate requests by General Motors Co. Government documents show the USTR rejected requests to exempt Tesla’s Model 3 car computer and center screen in May 29 letters, saying they both concern “a product strategically important or related to ‘Made in China 2025,’ or other Chinese industrial programs.” In May, Reuters reported that USTR had rejected a separate request by Tesla to exempt the company’s Autopilot “brain” from the tariffs. The more than 50 requests by GM rejected by USTR were for exemptions from Chinese-made parts used in vehicles including electronic controllers used for high voltage battery controls in hybrid and electric vehicles. It also rejected GM requests for high frequency antennas, push-button ignition switches, battery cables, electric motor parts and brake parts.GM declined to comment. In filings it said that some parts were not available outside China or that it would be cost prohibitive to shift production elsewhere. ' ' ' The denials of relief for more than 7,000 products to date out of 13,000 requests illustrate a systematic approach by the Trump administration to thwart China’s efforts to develop high-technology industries that Washington alleges benefited from theft and forced transfer of U.S. intellectual property. Tesla had warned that increased tariffs on the car computer it has dubbed the “brains” of the Model 3 causes “economic harm to Tesla, through the increase of costs and impact to profitability.” Tesla had also urged the office to approve a request by its supplier SAS Automotive USA Inc, builder of the touchscreen control screen for the Model 3, which displays navigation, media, audio and other functions. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but said in an April 29 securities filing that “costs for producing our vehicles in the U.S. have also been affected by import duties on certain components sourced from China.” Shares of Tesla were off earlier highs after Reuters first reported the decisions, but closed up 2.2% at $213.91 on the Nasdaq. Tesla said in its tariff exemption request that “choosing any other supplier would have delayed the (Model 3) program by 18 months with clean room setup, line validation and staff training.” China’s “Made in China 2025” strategy is focused on 10 strategic advanced manufacturing industries including new energy vehicles, where it aims to be a global leader. Coastr Posted 14June, 2019 Report Share Posted 14June, 2019 Interesting watching the battle play out here. Fascinating being on the sidelines without a horse in the race. I'm sure the end result will be that a domestic/alternative producer will be found somewhere. Unless all types of this technology (touchscreens etc) are only made in China? Do all the german manufacturers use chinese screens as well?
