Last year I took the scenic route to Gosford Classic Car Museum as per:

https://porscheforum.com.au/topic/11405-smt-tour-brisbane-to-gosford-car-museum-30th-june/

I may have become a little geographically embarrassed while heading south, however I believe we generally stayed on the path (bottom on first page) that I set out to follow, which is the same as our planned journey. From what I recall, the roads were fair to good. Much better than the pot holes they call roads in central NSW.

Therefore I think we should be safe to go with 'Rob's' route however I'm open to suggestions, I just want to go driving !!

How does 10am at Beaudesert sound to everyone?  Gives me a departure time of 6:30ish.

or, if you wanted to go Tenterfield to Casio we could meet at Warwick at 10am (or 11 if that's better for Brian)

Looking very forward to the drive !!

I'm only 2 hours from Beaudesert.

How keen are people for driving on Sunday after cars and coffee? My understanding is the C&C would be finished by 11am??

This would work for me, however those based in the south east might prefer a quick drive north.

https://goo.gl/maps/KaaVGj4xzF72

We could also come back via Kyogle, however I'm keen to see what the Casino -> Tenterfield road is like if that works for others.

Any cafe suggestions for meeting in Beaudesert at 10. Why don't we say departure from Beaudesert at 10. This will build in an extra time contingency for lunch stop.

I will be Beaudesert earlier, 8:30ish & have breaki there.

Assuming no major dissension in the ranks, looks like https://goo.gl/maps/yik3Z73EDy52 is our route de jour.

Any more suggestions for a mid route lunch stop?

I'm also up for an interesting ride home on Sunday as per bears suggestion.

Gents, I suggest we meet at Jubilee park in Beaudesert. There are two options for parking, either carparking off McKee street or a smaller parking area inside the park (closer to the toilet). Suggest we aim for the smaller parking area inside the park (holds about 8 cars), if I recall correctly there is a bakery over the road from the park.

As we have  a couple of maybes, it's probably worth us confirming who will be meeting at Beaudesert so we don't leave without someone. Please reply to the thread if you meeting us, we can then also ensure any last minute changes are communicated.

A departure time of 10am sounds good to me Brian. I won't be joining you for breakfast though!!

Suggest Woodenbong for lunch, there are a couple of lunch options and seems to be the last town for a while.

Are there any locals that would like to meet up for a drink/dinner at the pub Saturday night or at Byron Bay Cars & Coffee Sunday Morning to sort out the worlds pressing issues

I live in Lennox, so happy to assist with any advice you may need.

Note that the pub is the only pub, and the food is well above average, but not cheap (none is in Lennox).

There is very very limited parking. If you all want to park together, then I'd suggest parking behind the library (it will be virtually empty when you arrive). It's 150m from the pub.

Other notable food options are:

  1. Quattro - excellent Italian and Pizzas. Great winelist. Mid priced.
  2. Lex Thai - spicy authentic Thai. Mid Priced.
  3. Shelter - all sorts of millennial style Instagram food. More expensive.
  4. William St - good cafe style burgers etc. Has multiple tap beers. Not expensive.
  5. Mai Thai - "Aussie" Thai. Mid priced.

What time do you figure you'll get there? Any ideas on the route?

Hey XLR8,

Thanks for the heads up. Someone else was recently telling me that Lennox Heads can be a little on the $$ side.

I believe the plan will be to park at the motel and walk to the pub and/or restaurants. With a departure time of 10am at Beaudesert, I'm thinking we'll probably arrive mid afternoon .. let's say 3pmish. Sunday will be a big driving day if you wanted to come to cars and coffee with us, and maybe drive on from there for a bit. Believe there are some thoughts about trying to find a few good roads into Lenox heads on the Saturday afternoon. If you are aware of any, and would like to lead the way, we could organise to meet somewhere?? Any route suggestions also welcome … I wouldn't say the weekend has been planned down to a tee quite yet.

Would like to check out your 924.. don't get to see many these days and will give our 944 brethren another example of what a real front engine Porsche should look like!

Thanks also for your food guide. We possibly need to determine which ones serve the best milk shakes … these 944 drivers can be fussy sometimes.

Gents I’ve had a bereavement in the family. But once you have locked in what your doing I will look to join in somewhere along for at least part and to say hello.

Have shared my contact details with Wayne and Brian.

Gents how long of a drive are you looking for on your return leg … ? I know a good hour or two that will get you to Currumbin and you can head north from there back to brisbane ?

Well, as for roads, they are either dire or awful closer around here. Plenty of nice ones, but they are bumpy! If coming from the north west into Lennox, your route looks pretty good to me. The Tregeagle section and the Tuckombil section are nice. There are likely to be some law enforcers near Alstonville.

Heading north, take the Hinterland Way to Byron (past Bangalow). It's the old Pacific Hwy and a much better road than the goat track that is the Coast Road. Again, law enforcers can be in attendance.

From Cars and Coffee, I'd suggest back up the Hinterland Way to Coolampn Scenic Drive, and on to Mullumbimby. On back to the Highway. Then north a few kms to the Tweed Valley Way at Yelgun. Along there either over the range to Murwillumbah, or turn right and head down the Pottsville Road.

If the Pottsville route is selected, I can recommend the Cabarita>Clothiers Creek Road>Farrants Road>Eviron Road>Duranbah Road loop back to the highway.

Don't get too excited about my Audi. Whilst reliable and rust free, she's no beauty, and only fast changing direction.

My kids reckon the best milkshake is at Lennox Coffee and Gelatio Co. (the ice cream is very good), or William St cafe.

I’m a bit slow to the party guys. Can’t make the Lennox drive but will fly the front engined flag at the PCQ 70th event. Will be sure to take some snaps for PFA members busy behind the wheel that weekend. Enjoy the drive! :D

I'm spewing - I'm car-less...  Out of action, can't trust the water pump that's just started to leak.  I'll get down to Queen street, but that'll be about it I'm afraid...

I installed a new starter motor this afternoon. Was relieved that this solved my hot start issue otherwise I would have been up a certain creek without a paddle (or effective starting mechanism). Few little jobs for tomorrow, then nothing left except the driving!!

@firstone will be a noisy arvo near your place John if this lot go through..

I would suggest the M1  is boringand you consider heading to more on the burnswick valley way after Mullumbimby

Gents first watch the 80km speed camera at the top of the climb , where the road goes to 2 lanes on the brunswick valley way

You could also take a trip out to Tyalgum via Zara road extending your trip from Durunbah and then back up into Springbrook or Mount Tomewin Rd to Currumbin from Tylagum/Chillingham , roads are good

This is a loop I drive but gives you the idea

Good loop Symsy

I've done that loop a few times, on the push bike, when I wasn't fat & old.

Are you going to join us for a quiet drink and/or dinner Saturday night?

Looks like you're all in for a good weekend. I can't make it - I have family obligations on both days. :(

I'll be going into the city on Saturday morning to view the collection.

Hope you all have a good drive. Watch out for the fun police.
