withers Posted 25January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 25January, 2013 Until SLK goes, I can only kick! The fun is in the research for sure. I'm sure I read on here the more you look, the better car you end up with.
Uncle Posted 25January, 2013 Report Share Posted 25January, 2013 I think its a case of the more you look the more you know what to look for and the value of a car when its listed. I looked at this before I bought my car. It's 2.7 but that can be fixed! http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/porsche-911-1975-14067840?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=1&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%201247%201282%204294963765%204294963707%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&Range=Price%3aMin%2c30000%7e0.5&sort=default He sent me a ton of pics but I can't find them now. Service history is ok but not complete. for the money you would get a PPI and go from there. I think you would own the car for 20k.

withers Posted 26January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 Cool Uncle, that does look neat. I'd like to see those front seats have their tartan fabrics back in them. Can you still get those fabrics? Hugh, I've been watching the yellow one too, that also looks good! There's the Targa in Tas and another one in NSW that I also like the look of! http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/porsche-911-1976-14015837?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=30&page=2&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%201247%201282%204294963765%204294963707%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&Range=Price%3aMin%2c40000%7e0.5&sort=default And http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/porsche-911-1975-13949235?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=31&page=2&eapi=2&__N=1246%201252%201247%201282%204294963765%204294963707%201216&num=15&silo=Stock&Range=Price%3aMin%2c40000%7e0.5&sort=default
wasserkuhl Posted 26January, 2013 Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 The Blue one looks great value, subject to no rust inspection. I really really really really like that Yellow 2.7. That looks like a wonderful thing......I WANT IT.

A few people around the world do that early fabric. When Blackmans did some work on my car he showed me the porsche fabric you can still get. I was shocked to see just how much was around. T-Man Posted 26January, 2013 Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 See Amanda. Already a few options for a great weekender, and I would put a couple of those babies in my garage without a problem. Lots of choice when the parameters change.

D-banger Posted 26January, 2013 Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 Yep, plenty of choice now. I am attracted to 3.0 engines of the SC, period cookie cutter wheels, and the classic targa silhouette/roll bar. But out of all these the weekender would have to be yellow coupe, subject to PPI. withers Posted 26January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 I'm surprised you guys seem to like the yellow one! Every time I see a tartan or cloth trim, cookie cutters, no whale tail and a lighter retro color on a 911, I'm immediately drawn to it! Getting SLK bites too

withers Posted 26January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 Is the 5 digit speedo of concern? Given it might make it hard to determine total mileage.
Jimmy Posted 26January, 2013 Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 I think he also said the Targa doesn't leak. Don't they all leak? If all the seals and gaskets were done and the car is driven regularly then it shouldn't really leak.
Jimmy Posted 26January, 2013 Report Share Posted 26January, 2013 I think he also said the Targa doesn't leak. Don't they all leak? Just had another look and states that it had an engine rebuild in the UK, so depending how long ago it was done I would assume it shouldn't be leaking. Russ Posted 27January, 2013 Report Share Posted 27January, 2013 i think all targas leak to a point, the amount of flex in the body means the rubbers never quite line up properly. i was thinking amanda needed her own subforum of potential purchases, but this thread is as good as any lol
Harvs11 Posted 27January, 2013 Report Share Posted 27January, 2013 Yellow coupe is nice (355K kms is a concern), the grey targas seem a bit dull. I think the first car, the blue Targa, is my pick of the bunch. Blue is a nice contrast to the black hood and trim and the slightly wider SC body better suits the taller Targa stance. If the history stands up to a ppi it should be good for many km's. Being from the UK, a good check around the sills and lower body are a must. I think the Tas one would look better with polished Fuchs or at least the silver/black combo. Would match the silver Targa bar. I'm not that fussed on the color, I'll be looking for the best car in my price range. Targa or Coupe with Sunroof
