SteamWolf Posted 29July, 2014 Report Share Posted 29July, 2014 Best kind! *runs* That body shell seems over priced for something so stripped out, and gut feel tells me it wouldn't have been imported as registerable.
OZ930 Posted 29July, 2014 Report Share Posted 29July, 2014 VIN indicates Targa/Cabrio, so probably a "conversion"
espskk Posted 29July, 2014 Report Share Posted 29July, 2014 VIN indicates Targa Thanks for the info all. One to stay well away from. OZ930 what part of the VIN indicates a targa?? Thanks Steve
sleazius Posted 29July, 2014 Report Share Posted 29July, 2014 Pretty sure there were no convertibles made until 1983. So you're probably looking at a decapitated Targa as well. The font of all reliable knowledge, aka wikipedia claims there were some released in late '82 as an '83 model year.

Mike D'Silva Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 apparently sold now. Car used to be a white, sportomatic.. Converted to manual with a 3.0SC motor.. that eventually blew up. Then a 2.7 was installed. Lots of oil weeping.. normal I guess? Car was white but one of the owners in its history wanted a silver car, so silver it became! Russ Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 VIN indicates Targa/Cabrio, so probably a "conversion" I wonder how many cars had a dealer conversion? and if PCA has any history of dealers doing them? I'd assume there were people with older cars that wanted a cabrio (I have the rest of this too if anyone ever gets keen on the idea - it'll work on the older cars too)

Coastr Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 Wow, I never knew Porsche themselves gave out advice on chopping up Targas. I always thought they were backyard Sawzall style jobs. You do indeed learn something new every day.
Russ Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 it's not really chopping up though, and is reversible the windscreen attachment for the targa/cabrio roof is the same either way (I was wrong, see here - ) and the targa bar comes off with some bolts in the rear wheel arches and then the glass comes out. I don't think there's actually any cutting required at all which is good if anyone ever wants to go the other way

Interesting stuff, though. I guess given the original soft window targa was a convertible with a roll hoop this makes sense.
Russ Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 Russ, whats the going rate on a targa rear window, it would be eye watering wouldn't it? haha from Porsche genuine it's something like $18k you can pick them up on eBay/gumtree for $100 or so (I have a spare just in case) and yes, guilty as charged from reading from the book that shalt never be opened. in my defence it's quite interesting! The actual structural part of the hoop is welded to the tub. I have a RHD 73 targa in resto as we speak. Despite suffering various 80's update crimes then roll hoop was (thankfully) left alone. _Tony Posted 30July, 2014 Report Share Posted 30July, 2014 Have noticed a sharp increase in prices for 993's. Are sellers tending to get these prices or are they too high? Some auto's in the 60-70k range. Not so long ago a decent manual would have been in the 70-80k range. Consequently I think there is a fair amount of wishful thinking here.I think the last Tip advertised for sale went for around $57k - '95 136,000km silver. http://www.typ901.org/showthread.php?t=5023Although after saying all that, I just noticed that this manual one went quick!http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Porsche-911-Carrera-1994/AGC-AD-10124392/?Cr=20&sdmvc=1If you want a 993, might be good to buy one soon....
