DJM Posted 9January, 2014 Report Share Posted 9January, 2014 G5032 how do you know it was a repairable write off? Did you run a RTA report? I am on an ipad and the RTA report is not ipad compatible for the full report. I lost half a nights sleep day dreaming about this car. Have phoned owner several times today but no luck contacting him. The repairable write off and difficulty of getting a Wollongong PPI are dimming my enthusiasm a fair bit, but not enough to push me back into the $100k plus C4s market.. Where did this one end up - as I am O/S at the moment, I emailed some questions to the owner (in particular requesting photo of under bonnet sticker to try to make sense if it all) and had no reply. Always amuses me when someone advertises a car for sale and does not return calls or emails, It it happens to be a C2S with some RS engine concoction, I thought it was too good to pass up at 60 odd grand and I'd worry about what to do with 2 Porsches after the fact. Hopefully a PFA'er buys it soon and I can relax....
ByronBayChris Posted 9January, 2014 Report Share Posted 9January, 2014 "engine features hydraulic lifters" errr, no what you meant to write is features hydraulic chain tensioners. Haydraulic lifters only came in the 993 for the first time. OK now I'll get my Anorak and leave. Yeah...funny story about this

550Spyder Posted 11January, 2014 Report Share Posted 11January, 2014 I just love original humble cars like this (dark blue option 491 Carrera in SW WA). This is a great looking original looking car. I have looked at the web add several times but location 3-4 hours south of Perth is just too hard for an east coast buyer looking for specialist ppi. My first porsche (twin cam 944s) was in this colour, very forgiving . If this was in Melbourne it would get snapped up very quickly. I can see this car sitting for six months unsold simply because of awkward location. A shame as it looks like a brilliant car to me. Does anyone on the forum know the car or the owner? Simonoz Posted 11January, 2014 Report Share Posted 11January, 2014 550S It's not hard at all to sort this out. The current owner is well known. He is a car guy. He owned a servo and competes regularly in Tarmac events. The car is 45 minutes from Perth. Richard at RJP Motorsport will inspect it in need. 94724600. He may well know the car anyway. I have little doubt that the car could be delivered to RJP, inspected, agreed upon, and freighted within a week to your door. RJP do all my work, and that of numerous others in the 911 world. Wasserkuhl will vouch for him, and the process I'm sure. Good luck! It looks like a buy if the accident history and corrosion are not at issue. Simonk Posted 11January, 2014 Report Share Posted 11January, 2014 M491 is too rare to pass up the opportunity if that's what you want (unless you want to pay $75k for the white one with the silly fins on the rear wheel arches) This particular car I'm pretty sure was sold by a dealer to the current owner less than a year ago. Original ads by the current seller mentioned selling because of illness. Worth mentioning in case there's another reason it's back on the market. If all is good, it's a seriously good price and well worth persuing. If it ended up in Melbourne and on a PFA SMT, I'd be very excited! The trigger finger on the camera would be going nuts! If this is a '80 build MY'81 car that makes it very appealing as I am certain the '81 cars had a slight HP bump over the previous year. Great colour combo' as well. 550Spyder Posted 11January, 2014 Report Share Posted 11January, 2014 Thanks simonoz. Appreciated. Simon k .. Brilliant photos of your 491 on your link. Are those stop light on the stick and reflectors on the rear bumper 3/4 way across factory. The two wa 491 cars both individually have one each of these (unusual ) features. Was not sure if they were factoryon australian cars? Looks like port Campbell if I am not mistaken. Superb drive.

If you have a look at some 930s you'll see they all have them. There was a discussion about the ET lights here recently. I think we came to the conclusion that they were an optional extra from about 1986 onwards. You mentioned two for sale in WA. The blue one we've been talking about and I assume the white one? The white one is not a genuine M491, even though he refers to it as the "930 wide body option". Earlier versions of the ad mentioned it being converted into a turbo look by Hamiltons. I assume Hamiltons offered it as an option after delivery as its not the first one I've seen which has been converted by Hamiltons. If you're talking about the Great Ocean Rd SMT pics, then yes, we ended up in Port Cambell and it was a brilliant drive. I'd removed that link from my signature though so I'm a bit confused??? 550Spyder Posted 12January, 2014 Report Share Posted 12January, 2014 Thanks for the heads up on the white wa car. When you say Hamiltonian converted them did they just do the bodies? Or did they also fit the 930 suspension and brakes to complete the package as a genuine 491? That is a real let down as the car is otherwise smart. How do I tell a genuine factory wide body 491 from a Hamiltonian special? Assume Hamilton car will not have 491 on the option sticker under bonnet. There was a Flickr link to your porsche photos either in your footer or your profile. Don't worry I haven't started stalking you....yet ( they are great 491 shots). Does anyone know if the white 491 in vic with the unusual slots in the flairs is genuine? This is the only car with these I have seen. Loving building the knowledge on these cars but it is an emotional roller coaster of twists and surprises!

It's a poisonous pool in which we swim, full of sharks and snakes.... Makes it fun though, eh? Let me know if you need a hand with the WA M491. I've got to speak to Richo tomorrow and I'll ask him if he knows it.
550Spyder Posted 12January, 2014 Report Share Posted 12January, 2014 Yes simon, As a topic it almost does your head in with twists and turns as much as discussing wine...lucky they are both great obsessions to have... Yes if you can find out anything about the blue 491 in WA that would be a great help and much appreciated. I will give the owner a call this week and get a full rundown from him. I did ruefully note the posting earlier this week, ' if its too good to be true.....'

Simonk Posted 12January, 2014 Report Share Posted 12January, 2014 Hey 550. I don't really know anything about the Hamilton's wide body option, only what I've read in a couple ads. So I don't know if they added the suspension and brakes. One way to tell is the 930/M491 rear brake calipers are towards the rear whereas the 3.2 caliper is towards the front. Even if the brakes are upgraded to turbo brakes, I believe they can't be mounted towards the rear unless the turbo suspension is also installed. To check if it's genuine, there's an options sticker on the underside of the front bonnet lid which should list 491. If the sticker is missing for whatever reason, you can also check with Porsche Australia. The white one in Vic claims to be genuine. I believe the fins were also some sort of factory option. It's been on the market for a week and so far it's been advertised for $65k, $74k, and $72k. I'd say his pricing has been guided by the other two dreamers asking $70k odd.
