Anyone got any practical experience with whats good and bad..

trying to get myself organised..

There is bugger all around me in the wilds of byron in terms of suppliers  other than Super Cheap and was internet shopping.

I have tool boxes and stuff everywhere.

I was looking at something like

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Shogun-Mechanic-Tool-Box-on-Trolley-with-16-Drawers-2-in-1-Unit-Black-/201531499224?hash=item2eec36a2d8:g:y1cAAOSwQItT~Dww

Reality is I rarely would take all my tools with me or work at the track , only minimal emergency , so not worried about transport as such but open to inputs from anyone on trolleys that separate.

Whats your experience in general with the quality of any cheaper brands  SCA , Kingchrome others.. the runners and build quality??  Caster quality etc etc

any other tips??  Come on I know there some man caves out there with tools that get used..

Cheers

Kingchome isn't what i'd call a cheap brand. They're quite good. No exp with SCA. Avoid the "Geelong" brand ones. I bought a little one to cart tools around near my cars when toying with them and the casters just lock up in specific directions.

No Bunnings where you can put your tyre kicking skills at work?

I have Kincrome tool trolleys and also vouch for their quality.

I have the cheaper SCA tool cabinets as well and they are not bad, but if you can afford it I would pay the extra for Kincrome.

You want to look for trolleys that have quality rollers on the drawers so they open and close smoothly and which have a soft close rather than a hard close.

I have a Palmera cabinet (Palmera now owned by Snap-on) that I've had for more than 10 years.  Lovely precision feel on the drawer rollers whenever you use them, that I expect is missing on the cheaper brands.  Nice durable, thick and glossy powder-coat finish, too.  Also had a Beach tool chest where I worked, still looked good and worked perfectly after 30 years...  I like the Kincrome range of gear, but haven't tried their tool chests, love the blue colour

This Beach one (below) looks just like my Palmera, only the Palmera is black...

I have one of these that my wife & kids got for my birthday a few years ago.  It's just a plain orange one though.  It's just right for my kit of tools.  I put bags of dessicant in the drawers to keep the rust at bay, and a bag of chux wipes in the bottom drawer for cleaning the tools when I finish with them.

I also have an old timber engineer's tool chest for my mic's, squares, and other fine tools (which I no longer use).  It's a hand me down from my dad, who built it when he was a trainee back in the fatherland in the early 50's.

Bunnings have some nice alloy tool trolleys with a wooden bench attached, or the tall ones with a stereo. Not cheap, but they look good

I have Sidchrome - Chinese made these days but the quality is good and they stand by the product. I bought the 5 drawer and also a matching toolbox sitting on top - had my own tools. Kinchrome is also pretty good quality, close to Sidchrome is my suggestion

Note that I got Bunnings to price match/beat Just Tools. I got the Just Tools price +10% about 5 years ago.

You must have a Bunnings near you.....if not places like Just Tools/All Tools will freight

I went sidchrome as well (13 drawer and 7 drawer trolleys) and are pretty hard on my gear and they have stood up well. I would Suggest checking out the quality of the welds on the various brands as you will see some obvious differences, and the drawer guides (open and put some weight on them and see how much movement vertical and lateral you get and as Carrera28 mentioned then see if the drawer moves smoothly in and out with a nice soft close detent.  I also prefer the trolleys rather than stacking the tool chests on top, one because the drawers were a little deeper in the trolleys I got, and with mdf on top you get a nice work bench on top

I got a monster Stanley job from Masters closing down sales. I did a fair bit of research before hand and you really want something quality, but also you really need to look at the size, shape and quantity of drawers. I don't personally want little drawers near the floor, or big drawers near the top for that matter. Some layouts I saw defied logic...

I have had the 36" supercheap 6 drawer unit for 3 yrs nearly and i have abused it and in one of those deep drawers i have a couple of 7lb hammers, 4lb hammers and all my pry bars, i reckon there is 30kgs of gear in the one drawer, hasn't let me down, it may be cheap but it's not rubbish.
