i've had a 77 targa sporto for a few months, gradually going through and fixing a few things on it - and driving it alot. i'll get a pic up soon

i did a search for sportomatic and sporto, is there no love for them on here?

Welcome aboard Russ.

Don't think we have too many Sportomatic owners here.

Welcome Russ.

Theo,

Can I be the first to prompt you to respond and post your 1000th milestone post.

Congrats in advance and here is to another 1000.

It has been a pleasure to meet you and reading your posts.

Regards

Jim

Had a sporto sc years ago, nothing wrong with them at all...just the initial phase of remembering not to keep your hand on the stick otherwise you deal with the clutch disengaging... The Sporto was potentially quicker than its manual counterpart around a track I've heard...

Welcome !!!

Welcome.

The only Sporto I have ever been in was back in 1985, it was a 77 Targa.........great car. My Father Test Drove it and didn't buy it as I was too tall for the rear seat.....(no problem for as I remember)

Sporto's are great, its just that many have been converted to Manuals due to their relative complexity and lack of specialist knowledge in repairing them.

(In UK, Europe and USA so we have no chance here!!!)

I think they were ahead of their time as no other contemporary manufacturer offerred anything similar.

Due to the 911's cult following, anything other than an aircooled manual has been deemed lesser.

Which is totally incorrect! However you probably have a very unique and exclusive vehicle and so good to know someone has one !!!

I would be keen to see some pictures!!

Aye, I love a wee tooch of tarrrrtan.

Seriously, I really like the tartan trim of these mid-late 70's Porsches.

I even like the pascha trim found in the early 80's 924, 944, 928 & 911.

Great stuff.

Welcome RussR!

Without a work of a lie I've even thought about getting the new Sparco's trimmed in the tartan if I can find something close enough.

I have seen just the inner cushions trimmed in a race seat, agree the original interiors look great though.

Welcome to the forum Russ.

My first ride in a P car was a Sporto Targa in black. :D I was instantly hooked.

oh, and i know i promised photos - here's a good one taken by Boxer (from PF, who'll hopefully be joining us shortly) - we recently had a bit of a run up Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious - which we'll hopefully be redoing in the new year if anyone local is keen
