JV911 Posted 21April, 2017 Report Share Posted 21April, 2017 There is a glove shop opposite the Trevi Fountain that I visit whenever I'm in Italy, but they also do mail order.http://www.dicorigloves.com/catalogo_eng.aspAnd have some ebay specialshttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RCI-RACE-GLOVES-Nomex-Single-Layer-Black-SFI-3-3-1-Racing-JR-Sizes-NEW-/201522939351?var=&hash=item2eebb405d7:m:m8WJFiZWCMoa3CvZryk-6GwThere is also a bloke in Romania who sells via ebay, but makes them to order. I bought dark grey with green stitching to match the car Choose your style, choose your colours. Even email him a 1:1 photocopy of your hand so he can make them...umm...fit like a glove. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Driving-Leather-Gloves-Mens-Deerskin-Leather-Black-Dark-Brown-Beige-Handsewn-/162373707395?hash=item25ce3a2683:g:SqMAAOSwx-9WxrJG

All those long exhausting days of driving on sensational roads made my hands sore.what exactly were you doing with your hands...???A good steering wheel makes the difference. I did 700 miles on a stock old steering wheel in LA and hands were slipping all over the place. Now changed to the Prototipo and no worries. The extra girth helps.. Carrera28 Posted 21April, 2017 Report Share Posted 21April, 2017 Hmmm I remember this topic being discussed earlier with similar amusing suggestions and comments. If you want classic driving gloves made out of leather I suggest one's like these in black are the way to go.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UNISEX-SLIM-FIT-LEATHER-CROCHET-STRING-DRIVING-GLOVES-WHEELCHAIR-CHAUFFEUR-/201546161474?var=&hash=item2eed165d42:m:mxOnP3BwF-veFkNuouVLhzAThe wool back means you don't need the holes in the knuckles and they provide a subtle look, they are comfortable and the leather on the palm and fingers will grip well. Don't buy the ones in the link as I am sure you can get better quality but if you are after a classic traditional set this is the style I would recommend.Alternatively a set of dark grey or black go karting gloves are potentially a cheap and effective solution, just search ebay and you will find a pair, you don't need fireproof gloves so you can pick them up cheaply and they are comfortable and grip well. I picked up a nice dark grey Bieffe set for about $40 and if I was to wear driving gloves these are nice and comfortable and subtle. Whatever you do though don't get out the car wearing them as they are usually longer than normal gloves and you will undoubtedly be given crap for wearing them. For track days I have a set of Alpinestars which I picked up for Rennsport, they are super comfortable and grip really well. However they are not subtle and wearing them on the road would I suspect subject one to much mirth and teasing from one's fellow Porsche Owners.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alpinestars-Tech-1-Z-Race-Gloves-FIA-Approved-Oval-Rally-Autograss-SALE-XS-L-/162275988378?var=&hash=item25c867139a:m:mjyY4c1uIeapvErWgkxE0owSomething to look at with gloves is where the stitching for the fingers is located. If the stitching is inside the fingers they will look better but potentially the stitching will reduce comfort as this will press against your fingers. If you look at top line racing driver gloves a lot of them have stitching on the outside, this means the interior of the glove is smooth and more comfortable against your fingers but they don't look as nice with the stitching visible. Apogee Posted 21April, 2017 Report Share Posted 21April, 2017 The dood in that link is using gloves to operate his tablet...effing hipster! There was a thread on when it's kosher to wear these sorts of gloves. I read a classic Benz thread where back in the day it was considered appropriate to wear gloves when using the thin plastic steering wheels the classic Benzes (and other cars eg 356s) had. Even in a closed top car. Well my 987 Spyder has a touch screen Radio/Nav unit. Hence the need for a pair that will work with it.I wear gloves so that the steering wheel doesn't get a build up of oils from my hands, makes cleaning them a lot easier. I've seen leather steering wheels on GTIs that have become shiny/glossy from the buildup of oils and polishing with use.

tazzieman Posted 21April, 2017 Report Share Posted 21April, 2017 Palms sweat , but there is no oil gland. Unless you drive with your armpit or groin The problem is modern leather isn't proper old school leather. Probably made in North Korea these days.
