Carrera 3.0 market watch

Recommended Posts

I've got a copy of the exact numbers somewhere but 14 stands out for some reason....68 is another number that sticks in my mind which I believe to be RHD Carrera 3.0's in Targa trim.  I'm pretty sure the same copy I have has been posted here (listing all numbers relating to impact bumper carrera's whether they be 2.7 or 3.0 from '74 to '77).  The 'impact bumper' forum (https://www.impactbumpers.com/forum/) is also a good source of information along with Ferdinand (http://www.ferdinandmagazine.com/porsche-911-2-7-versus-carrera-3-0-compare) where there are a few C3.0 articles.  There used to be a Carrera 3.0 site, including a worldwide register but I can't seem to find it now.....I believe it was maintained by John Glynn who looks after the ferdiandmaagazine site....apologies if you already know all this.

14 indeed. 6 in 1976 and 8 in 1977. Best guess at least half would be factory sporto.

Thanks for the information guys. No wonder I can't recall ever seeing one. Very interesting that the Carrera 3.0 would be delivered in Sport, even more interesting the high percentage.

That might be why a red Targa Sporto in below average condition sold for absolutely stupid money at an auction in Launceston late last year / earlier this year.  Price was some $65k from memory, with an awful lot of work to do....  I'll see if I can find some photos to confirm it is a 3.0L but it might have been one of the 14.  From memory it was a '77

Yep, found photos, was plated 12/77.  Had 196,000 kms on it, so that was probably low for age then, although I suspect it hadn't been used much for the prior 10-12 years, last service sticker was 04....

Nice looking car. Would have been helpful to mention the Sporto conversion in the ad.

You'd think for such a respected? indy dealer that would definately be stated in the ad for full transparency. Guesg they can try and sell 'em as they see fit, it's their car

Was it for sale in Adelaide last year?

I think that was the one ... I'd have to check. Was tempting at $90k even as an ex sporto.

I think it may not have a compliance plate, if memory serves.

Compliance plate? When did it go from just VIN plate to compliance?

I believe 1973/74 with new Australian Design rules.

Pretty sure the lime green 74 Carrera Targa from Adelaide is\was also missing the all important compliance plate.

Thanks Chris.

Yeah that rings a bell with the Adelaide car ... just never taken note of when it went from token chassis number plate to full compliance - seems it's in line with the impact bumper / ADR?
