Coastr Posted 6April, 2017 Report Share Posted 6April, 2017 I have actually thought seriously about doing that on a trip to the US. It is just the logistics that has me hesitating. Finding the right car and then selling it when it is done. You really need someone on the ground to help out.don't be frightened ... easy to do. Give yourself two days to buy in your target city of choice and spend a month before hand getting a feel or prices / cars.if you aren't interested in top dollar for the car put it on Craigslist at a quick price in a big city and it will go in a day, or do what I did and donate to charity - Lots of them accept cars as long as registered and driving. Obviously you don't get any cash but you will dispose of it clean and quick.progressive insurance will insure you without a valid US license and just cancel and receive refund for the balance of the policy (or pay monthly and just cancel).obviously it depends on the car that you want to do it in. Sadly the lower end of the us fleet is shite 90s and 00s cars - don't harbour too many illusions about getting a 60s impala or caddie. But pickups are plentiful and ex-gov crown vics are still plentiful.there was a pelican thread of some guys who bought a 3.2 911 and drove it all around before shipping back home. IIRC they had to get major engine work done in Oregon but people on the forum pointed them in the right direction. Always liked the classic look of a Jaguar XK8, don't know about performance and reliability though. Can we mention Jaguar here or not!crickey... are xk8s a classic already?
