Just a S-T , I recall ~1953 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunbeam-Talbot_90 I note "A Mk II was driven by Stirling Moss to take second place in the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally." , so they were clearly well engineered , plus a good driver helps!
