Glad to see I got the 928 juice flowing

As for 930's yes they are flowing too but at yesterdays inflated prices still , thats artificial abundance for ya . Rare iI dont think so, nice maybe but rare not

Meh, 930's, so yesterday, good to see the much maligned front engines getting the front page.

People are genuinely looking at 928s so this is an appropriate place to discuss them .

The early 928s had a new Porsche designed manual gearbox that was not great , neither was the clutch mechanism. In Germany , only 25% of people specced the auto box...Porsche pushed the proven unburstable auto box made by Daimler-Benz , and partly because its rival market was the Benz 6.9L models where 93% of people wanted autos.

The 928S was a major improvement in most aspects and the manual gearbox redesigned in 1985 ; much better in subsequent years.

As usual I have several printed refs e.g. Excellence was Expected.

Can someone please buy this?? I don't want a GT type of car, I want a more-nimble 2+2, so a 928 isn't really on my list. But... this is not far from me, I have a 928/944 specialist very close, I love the sound of the V8 in these, I would only buy a manual, and its just about within (purchase) budget. I've been watching it for about 6 months now, and am convinced I don't want an autobahn stormer or another white car. But...but...but... I need temptation removed!

Old proverb say strong will easy when cash is low

That has changed recently...

What sort of Porsche apart from a 944 are you looking for? Or would a Mini fit the bill?

My auto 928 is every bit a sports car, especially when the 996s are trying to keep up ;) You can even shift gears or just leave it in 2nd in the twisties and work on perfecting the driving lines.

Good luck with the search for fast+reliable+cheap+2+2!

Anybody on here purchase that mostly original Silver SC from AutoHaus Hamilton? Didn't last long - not that I expected it to, regardless of klm travelled

Agreed .... although they were very upfront regarding the engine rebuild needed sooner rather than later.

Still .... if one was capable of doing the work themselves, it was a bargain and was never going to last long.

For discussions sake, what do we think the cost would be to convert this back to an IB look but retaining the same silver colour to minimise costs?

Front and rear narrow body wings

Front and rear bumpers

Flag mirrors

Fuchs

Rear lights including centre panel

Front turn indicators

Rear deck lid

Personally, it would be a sizeable sum to perform all of the above work as it would require full paint. Then you have the while you're there syndrome with rubbers etc. It would be much more cost effective to keep it wide body for the turbo look.

I've got a thing for hips!  What can I say....I'm bias ;)

BUT......Imagine an IROC backdate

Front and rear narrow body wings wouldn't bother, isn't an original car

Front and rear bumpers $700 for IB, $1200 IROC

Flag mirrors free

Fuchs Braid wheels- $3000

Rear lights including centre panel $1100

Front turn indicators $500

Rear deck lid Free

plus $500 in paint and materials, that is what it would cost me. plus i would then have a spare 3.8 wing for the 964.

i notice it has a 3.6, so that's right up my alley... plus 6k for ITB's :D

I'm with Lee, enjoy as is, although I would keep the wheels, lose the wing and just drive.... make it into a 964 Anniversary "recreation" :)

A bit confused though is it a 3.0 litre engine or a 964 one??

Nothing wrong with the 964 look but as I already own a 964 but lust after an IB car, this could be a great personalisation project without worrying about destroying an original example, it also comes with a tasty 3.6 motor so even better!

Thanks for that clutch, good food for thought. I'd be wanting NB because I prefer the aesthetics of an IB to WBTL cars but appreciate it would be rather cost prohibitive.

yup i wouldn't go the full 9 yard resto, i would return it to 'period' IB spec. imo no point going the whole way since the driveline isn't original either. would be rather rapid though.

i agree with PKAY, widebody IROC style powered by a 3.6 would be a lot of fun and i probably did miss out some miscellaneous seals.

+ labour (providing @poli84 isn't doing the work himself). Labour is the most expensive part!
