Funny, what's that strange burning smell coming from Obrut's garage?

(sorry, couldn't resist!)

The current score is start 2 fire 0. I’ll keep you updated.

Truly an icon of the 80s and truth be told my favourite, though not in gold.  Red for me.

I hope you've started on the 'tache

Ha, I would have run a mile from a red one.  Too cliche/Magnum PI...  The gold makes this a totally different proposition for me, I get to drive an icon without those associations. Different strokes as they say.

Initial research is showing it as the only Aust 308 in this colour.

The interior looks great with typical Italian flair,it'll be interesting to see how you compare it to the other cars you have had.

I’m not expecting the usual Porsche robustness, but it has some killer design details.

Off to find some metric TRX tyres...

From memory there are only two types of tires available a Goodyear eagle and a Michelin..........the size was 390 /225/ 55,,

I  think he used to get the tires from the UK and preferred the Michelin over the Goodyear .................The air con is a cracker in it to ..........one temp Arctic cold and your knee gets frost bite :Chuckle2:

Get your self a dash cover the reflection of the dash on the windscreen is really bad due to the windscreens rake my Dad had a carpet cover made to reduce the reflection used to due his head in ...

Looks Fantastic.

I'll wait for the swearing to start upon receipt of the 1st major service invoice.

So true. Expect at least 3 times the cost of work done on a Porsche of the same vintage.

Timing belt was the biggest head ache every 10,000 or 15 ,000 I think ,,,,,,,,,,you can do it yourself ,,Engine is east west in the 308 ,,,,so it requires the removal of the right hand rear inner guard liner and the top half of the suspension to get to the timing covers and remove the belt ,,,apart from that most things were pretty straight forward from memory but you do require some specialist tools ...

They say a Ferrari purchase is emotional not rational. At an emotional time in the past , I seriously looked at one of those!

I hope your car gets well used - and hang any expense! It's a helluva lot cheaper than school fees.

Looks great,  and I love the fact that it's not red.   It was interesting to chat about this car only a few weeks ago at our recent Sydney dinner and to think within a short period you're now the owner!   Enjoy.

All we now need is for the other dude chatting about exotic Italians at that same dinner (and I'm not thinking Sophia Loren)  to go and get his and we're good to go for a PFA splinter group.

Russ, think you'll find the 'glass cars were only the first run of GTB's - I drove a 'glass 308 GTB in the first Targa Tasmania, think it was a 1977 car from memory.  Lost of familiar parts from the Fiat parts bin (lots of same stuff as my 1975 124CC coupe had...)

Michelin XWX were probably original fitment.  We got some to go on the GTB for that first Targa Tasmania, but not sure if still available.  I noticed some on a couple of cars at the Gosford Motor Museum last week, but no idea if they were new or very old...

Believe car was designed around the XWX, certainly I found the slide was very progressive and controllable with the XWXs.  When I didn;t drive the next year owner was convinced to change to the then gun tyre Yoko A008s, but I reckon they might have had a higher ultimate grip, but when they let go I reckon there mightn't have been a recovery....

That car had the downdraft Webers, amazing sound from the driver's side air inlet as you could hear the air being sucked in when you pressed the loud pedal ☺
