Yes saw that Raf. I don't need the inspiration though as am very inspired to push through to getting her on the road! :)

Doors, bonnets, scuttle panels and stone trays front and rear now in high fill :)

I have been contacted by a local with a 914/6 RHD who is interested in selling it.  I will know more tomorrow about the car and its origins. It looks to be in very good condition.

A couple of quick questions.  Were there any original RHD and as I suspect, all were converted here.  If an engine conversion was done to a flat 6, was the 2.7 commonly used?

914s and 914-6s were never made in factory RHD, all were LHD. Crayford in the UK did RHD conversions to cars direct from the factory, but that's where my knowledge stops. If RHD conversions have been/are being done in Australia, I don't know by whom. I hope that helps a little bit.

@crsedge

question, slightly out of sequence for your build but...

when converting a 914/4 to a 914/6 what happens with the transaxle?

When using a, say a 2.7 motor from a 911 in the rear mounted position how do you get the transaxle to work in a mid engine layout?

Do you flip the transaxle upside down?

What was the factory 914/6 solution?

shift linkage, structural supports, cutting & bending metal, rear suspension my mind boggles at getting it to fit neatly.

I'm sure there are a few options ways on doing things.

fantastic build by the way!

Well, a year has passed since when I stated I hoped to have paint on my 914/6 GT project….. 🤪

As we know, COVID interacting with life has thrown everyone’s personal timelines into havoc. Combine that with my restorer changing business premises and well here we are….

Progress certainly hasn’t stopped over the past 12 months, it is amazing the amount of work that has occurred which won’t be visible to those looking at the final product (or even these photos)! This includes final prep for the front and rear flared valance panels, bumpers and flared scuttle panels. I think this is something that everyone who has embarked on a major build will well and truly understand!!

Anyhoo, I now have paint on the undersides of front and rear bonnets, boot, froot and the engine bay! Next is stoneguard under the wheel arches and more bursts of sunflower yellow paint on top of the stoneguard!

The main paint treatment for the body will not occur until the motor and gearbox are installed- this is scheduled to commence in the next 2 weeks 😎

Some photos of progress to-date!

Stone guard and paint now applied to wheel arches.

Plus a few other shots of the painted areas.

Next is reinstating the wiring harness, paint the fuel tank and refit the oil cooler radiator and associated hoses before being shipped off for the engine/gearbox installation 😎

There is a similar one in Bris being done by a friend and his progress has been very forward and back.

If it is the same person I know, i believe he has 2x 914 builds underway, though only one a GT build.

Saw your car last week Craig when I was there 'helping' on my car.

It's looking really good! Finally coming along well now.

Thanks Patrick. I have only seen yours via photos, which looks amazing!

Has been a long time since my last post with an update.

Given how long this build has taken, I hit a patch where I started thinking about whether I had it in me to complete the journey. I don’t think I am the only one who has encountered those dark thoughts.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, I decided to maintain the path.

All flat panels are now painted in multiple coats of glorious Sunflower Yellow and clear coat. As is the body too. Unfortunately some of the photos don’t do full justice to the colour due to the fluro lights in the booth.

Am stoked with the progress and near-end body product, am hoping a couple of weeks to go and she will return to me to be put back together in my shed.

Then the motor and gearbox installed, followed by the interior. So still some way off before she hits the road again.

But I am heartened by the progress 😎
