Niko Posted 30August, 2013 Report Share Posted 30August, 2013 Cheers Niko. I've asked for my bearing. I'll bring it along to one of our next car park meet ups so you can all look at it! And think up some use for this hunk of metal that effectively cost me $3500! That would be great, I'm sure we can find something useful to do with it. Re the IMS failure video, Carrera, might be just me, but I am having trouble getting that one to fire up. I will keep trying or look it up manually. ...I have no doubt it will probably give some the odd nightmare...

withers Posted 30August, 2013 Report Share Posted 30August, 2013 Well I got the car back. God I love that car - it's sooo gorgeous! Oh yeh the bearing stuff, all good. Cars a bit smelly, probably got some oil etc to burn off on the outside from spillages etc. As you'd expect it drives and sounds the same. I need to keep an eye out for any oil drops under the car, but all us P owners do that anyways! There might be some adjustment required but the install will be checked out in Nov during the next service. Whilst I could have serviced the car now and early, I decided to leave it on purpose. The bearing is smaller than I imagined. I will get it and take a photo of it sitting on my hand. It looks fine but hey, you can't see much. Onwards and upwards! withers Posted 30August, 2013 Report Share Posted 30August, 2013 There's a video I posted in another thread that shows the installation of the IMS Solution too. Here's my bearing... The shaft has a tiny amount of play in it which might be normal?

GC9911 Posted 30August, 2013 Report Share Posted 30August, 2013 This may be the dumbest question, BUT, who is the manufacturer of the IMS original bearing? Porsche or a 3rd party supplier? What responsibility does the bearing manufacturer carry? Is the bearing not fit for purpose or the wrong application for this type of bearing? Just interested, we seem to know a lot about the failure but ultimately who is responsible when you drill down ( yes I know Porsche is but). Wash your mouth out with soap Amanda! Nary a drop, and I don't bother looking. My wife would let me know first anyway. Women are like that. I just tried googling this and found the thread below - seems a company called NSKhttp://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/34109-how-get-porsche-replace-my-2005-987-porsche-engine-ims-bearing-failure-42023-mi-3.html
Orion03 Posted 30August, 2013 Report Share Posted 30August, 2013 If you look at your pic Amanda you will see NSK on the top, well NS with the K hidden. I use those bearing in my work and they are normally fine, however I normally get mine from Japan, and I certainly don't use them in an engine. It would be interesting to pop the seal off and check the condition of the grease.
