HH1 Posted 17October, 2016 Report Share Posted 17October, 2016 There's this:http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/tallai/cars-vans-utes/1991-porsche-944-convertible/1124536116nice colour, nice looking car. Pricey though!Yup, it's mine. Great car with nothing to do on it, just get in and drive. As with everything else, price is subject to negotiation. Steep price, thoughhttp://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1985/SSE-AD-4335138/?Cr=12 I really think that around 15k is what you need to pay these days for a 944 in good condition. All of the current 944s listed have issues or work required. This is where the market is at.

Any car that Buchanans have dealt with has to be worth a look but I think I am going to stick with looking for a post 85 car (though I really like the look of that '85 from SA for 19k). Hard to resist. Tips

TINGY Posted 25October, 2016 Report Share Posted 25October, 2016 Well the market has spoken here, price drop,http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Porsche-944-1988/OAG-AD-13394672/?Cr=0http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1985/SSE-AD-4077371/?Cr=4This could be a good one, don't think the market is quite at the price though, we'll see how long it sitshttp://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1985/SSE-AD-4335138/?Cr=
88mph Posted 25October, 2016 Report Share Posted 25October, 2016 19k is probably high for a pre 85.5 if it isn't in tip top order.I think this is where the 944 is at.Look at the rest that are currently for sale. You can't get a manual in decent condition anywhere in Australia. If you want to pay 10k, be prepared to pay another 5-10 getting it up to scratch. You can't get a manual in decent condition anywhere in Australia. If you want to pay 10k, be prepared to pay another 5-10 getting it up to scratch.Probably a fair comment.....however I suppose from looking for so long I think I see a bit of a trend. The few expensive cars on carsales seem to sit forever because they are too high for the current buyers palate. They slowly fall by little increments over a long time until they reach a "reasonable price" for their condition & then they may sell. The shitters sit forever until they get cheap enough (sub 10) to make the big spend worthwhile. The decent cars in good knick advertised for a good price disappear rapidly. (I should know-I've missed a few of them!)I think you're right that nearly all of them need 5k spent in the first instance (or 10 depending on the car). I think a really good manual 944 (post 86) with little to spend will sell very quickly sub 20k. Above 20 & it would want to be very good (maybe the 20k is a psychological barrier). I think there is a reason the over 20k cars sit & that is people realize that these cars generally need at least 5k spent even if they are well kept & want to factor that in.Of course the turbos are a different kettle of fish again.Maybe i'm wrong- i'm a Porsche novice after all. TINGY Posted 25October, 2016 Report Share Posted 25October, 2016 (maybe the 20k is a psychological barrier). For quite some time now the market has only seen a few post 85.5 cars and they have gone fairly cheap, mine included, the rest are pre 85 and some were not so good and semingly not as sought after. Any S2's that were decent went almost overnight and any decent turbo's went the same way.Don't know what's going on with this quoting caper but it's giving me the shits. Jason E Posted 25October, 2016 Report Share Posted 25October, 2016 Rob,It makes me laugh a little when you say, "if only I was a little more hands on". Rob I've managed to break lego!! I couldn't be more hands off if I tried. I'm good at washing cars & filling them with petrol. That is where my skill sets end - sadly. Plus I think I am the only 45 year old with a Millennials need for instant gratification- it needs to be registerable Rob. I don't mind some things to fix but it needs to drive.Lee, thanks.Steve, not sure whether you are taking the mickey or not bit I promise not to quote you (insert smiley face). vinnytang Posted 25October, 2016 Report Share Posted 25October, 2016 I've been driving my 952 as a daily, and although I love it to bits when I get a chance to put my foot down, the stop-start traffic in inner-Melbourne is killing me. I'm thinking of picking up a 944 auto, but I definitely want a post-86 model. I haven't noticed any for sale at all, have you guys come across any in your searches for manuals?
