Tomorrow morning we are off to Hobart via cradle mountain and Queenstown.

So looking forward to the roads , though my passenger (bride) could be a bit Squamish 😁

Joz, think I might have passed you this afternoon 5.15ish near Granton if you were on your way into Hobart????  I had an unplanned business trip to Hobart and was heading home to Launceston at around that time in my Toerag.....

Not sure where Granton is but we were certainly headed for Hobart.

I think we arrived by the docks about 6pm.

Well what a drive. Got to be the best stretch of road I’ve ever experienced. Got of the boat by about 7am Then first stop was Cradle Mountain then Hobart via Queenstown.

Dove Lake @ Cradle Mountain

Arriving in Queenstown.  A very small town that looks like the place is doing it hard. Bit of a time warp.

The main drag. We actually were mesmerised by this in a Netflix movie/ episode of something?

The most magnificent staircase you'll find.  TheEmpire is owned by friends of ours, Porsche people (997 C2, Macan) and R8 for Targas and other fun 🙂

Try and keep to Ampol and BP, I avoid United.  Might require a little planning as Ampol and BP can be few and far between in our country areas

Yep and I buckled a couple time filling up with 95 due to no 98 available 😢

So tomorrow, Salamanca Market, Mt Wellington, visit to Richmond ,Port Arthur and Mona via ferry.

Not necessarily in that order.

Pooley's Vineyard at Richmond well worth a visit too, great pizzas and wine.  You might see a P car or 2 in the outbuildings as owner established our Porsche dealer many years ago.

Great day to get the BBC out, and go for a run with the Spyder Automotive crew.   Mike took us along some great roads, weather perfect, great company and cars.  The BBC did not win the peoples choice award today.  As much as it pains me the award went to what I think is the most gorgeous Boxster I have ever laid my eyes on.   Colour is Mahogany, and it it is one with the lot, owned and driven by Peter and his daughter Jules navigating for the day.IMG_7556.thumb.JPG.edcf84032008d4a1430f38c3bd364a46.JPGIMG_7557.thumb.JPG.9ac402d3ad8ed9d6a3357f39c2505e20.JPGIMG_7562.thumb.JPG.fc300cf7f830e7f1b4282354826d0628.JPGIMG_7563.thumb.JPG.168810e1b88007b3ba623dcd0e6155e2.JPGIMG_7569.thumb.JPG.c30ccd641a2e358e4900e1a975accf9e.JPGIMG_7576.thumb.JPG.e1ee0d3e3fdf9daf82a0b4873ece6b99.JPGIMG_7582.thumb.JPG.86b31e55d5d0bf04bb7d56f04a33a121.JPG1887928017_IMG_75842.thumb.JPG.30ce8572597fa7590e5a0a154e8f8031.JPG343201078_IMG_759822.thumb.JPG.e91c3c19925b365e148703c3b64ad89e.JPGIMG_7600.thumb.JPG.7cd79320f3465ed2baf9b241dbc952b8.JPGIMG_7599.thumb.JPG.b090fc0320400476cb1fd74016944d87.JPGIMG_7601.thumb.JPG.ef9be78d871e037bea404ad739822b86.JPG Thanks Mike for the invite....I had a blast....

Early this morning high above the clouds

What a view From the top of  Mt Wellington3F82EB34-5C78-4AAF-9B6D-0178861F38D7.thumb.jpeg.68950e56e6ca60c643e64e979e422b17.jpeg82B40934-8328-4043-8886-4E7410282D9A.thumb.jpeg.b7876d27410602e6a1c928f9bda892da.jpeg

From here of to Launceston via Freycinet, the odd winery then a belt along the Elephant Pass (Targa Tassie road)

For anyone that hasn’t had the pleasure of driving in Tasmania. What you are missing are excellent drivers roads. If twisties are your thing this is heaven. The speed limits are much more generous than the other states, particularly in Victoria. Roads here are signed 100/110 whereas in Vic they most certainly be 80kph. Just driving at the limit you will feel your suspension and tires working. But still being holiday season getting out early is recommended or else you’ll be stuck behind the camper conga line.
some stretches have abundant over taking lanes others are almost continuously double lined.

On my first day I think the whole distance travelled, I saw only two potholes. How good is that? And yep I found them both 🤦‍♂️

Oh btw, you need to watch out for the giant car totalling wallabies that lurk in the bush  🤣

Also while driving you’ll notice heaps of road kill, so this sign does have some truth to it.

Yep, roadkill is definitely the biggest problem, particularly with a very low car like my GT3.  Lots of weaving about on early morning country road drives, by mid-morning they've mostly been squashed by the trucks and 4WDs who don't care about such things....

That view from there is a beauty, looks so impressive and much higher when you're there, probably given you can see the water and where you came from.  I was surprised after driving down the centre from Launceston and then seeing this monster next to Hobart, simply spectacular, photos don't do it justice.

We actually didn’t realise how high it was, as the top was hidden by clouds less than half way up.

Once  you get through the clouds it was pure sunshine. Though the road wasn’t as good as I’d hoped being quite narrow and carrying two way traffic. With many people struggling to stay on their side.

I actually liked the fact it felt sort of dangerous to ascend in this day and age of everything being over policed and closely monitored, sort of good old fashioned Aussie “she’ll be right mate” 👍

Agree some people shouldn’t have a license and that road can be a challenge if you’re only used to going to Coles

It's a fabulous mountain so close to town. Agree, it's a nice drive up n down with that gut feel of a bit of danger. Also not to be missed is a hike up to the top n back down, nice dangerous feel of the elements there

The biggest problem during silly (read Tourist) season is the buses.  Just imagine how it is when the up bus meets the down bus.  That's why we desperately need the proposed cable car to go ahead to take a heap of cars off the road, and leave it to the proper drivers 🙂
