Datsun 1600 Appreciation Thread

Sakura Picnic was on in Melbourne today. Over 500 JDM cars and a few bikes including mine gathered in Bundoora Park.

Great turnout of Datsun 1600's with the most coupes and 2 door sedans I've seen at the one spot - 2 of each plus a number of 4 doors.

Not a 1600, but had to stop and take a few photos of this stunning 240K.

Easy import??

Other than Asbestos, should be simple with the importation like any other old car from OS. When I do I'll buy one from Japan as RHD.

Car above looks stunning and gives me some idea's for my 4 door. Interesting that they advertised it incorrectly as a Coupe, as is a 2 door sedan. Slightly different roofline between the two...

Sounds tough but 217hp…..really?  Seems a lot.  I knew a guy with 180hp L18 with big head/valves, twin 45DCOE Webers way back when and that was a tough street Datto.

I still have my original L16 sitting in the corner of my mum's garage from when I put in my warm L18 and was too lazy to scrap it. Might be worth something now! B)

95 grand? 😳😅😅😅

Not even a 2 door! Nice ones of those have been selling for $65K and would much rather that.

The above car is nice I must admit.

They’re getting up there. A friend just sold his SR20 4 door for $80k. Had it advertised for only a couple days before it sold.
Well built engineered cars are now far closer to 100k than 50.

I doubt you could buy a well built SR20 2 door sedan or coupe for under 100k now.

Assuming you are referring to SR20DET?

Yes, correct.
In terms of price, I have a 2 door sedan with an SR20det and I was offered stupid money for that well over a year ago… and it’s not even painted 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks for confirming, I thought it would be for a DET.

The 4 door I bought last November is just the DE, but with some nice DatSport bits and discs allround. Happy with that as I have my MR2 with hairdryer for boosted fun. Wanting to rebuild my stock DE motor into an NA screamer. 😎

BTW, do you know where they got the strut brace from?

When you say the strut brace, do you mean the one on my car?

if so, it’s a Tien from an S13 Silvia. I trimmed and re-welded it to fit the 1600.

Yes. Appreciate the details.

Brown Davis used to make them, they had a threaded fitting on the brace bar so you could crank the shock towers closer together 😂. Years ago now probably no longer doing them but could be worth a call, the owner used to rally 1600s.  Might still have the details.  https://rollcage.com.au/

Found this little treasure many years ago, it is a music box and I think it was used for either an aftershave promotion or someone has suggested used for cigarettes.  Made of metal

It is need of a bit of TLC so I will put it on my list of things to do... Music box part still works
