LeeM Posted 18April, 2020 Report Share Posted 18April, 2020 When I was 15, a mate had his license before anyone else, so he used to drive us around everywhere in his orange 1600. There was this one road that had a bridge over a train line we always used to get airborne over and I was always scared shitless. He ended up writing the car off there when he landed wrong and hit a Stobie (power) pole Niko

He used to get it airborne over a rail crossing in Frankston but one time he went a bit fast and landed so hard he split the floor about where the B pillars are.......😲. From memory he was able to weld it up. Niko and firstone

DJM Posted 19April, 2020 Report Share Posted 19April, 2020 Absolutely albeit in the US they are getting some good prices. Check out BaT USD auction results.😲 Compare Datsun 510 US$53k or IROC 911 Us$40k 😲 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-510-25/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-porsche-911-46/
LeeM Posted 19April, 2020 Report Share Posted 19April, 2020 Wow! No way in a fit would I have ever thought theyd be asking that much for a Datto! I can't for the life of remember the name of the car builder show on Foxtel who rebuilt a '510'. Small shop who specialise in 'Neesaaans' and they did a helluva job

Crap colour and as DJM points out, you'd need a step ladder to get into the thing. I think that's a white Prince Skyline GT in the background.. I love the colour, and the interior is very rare... particularly in that condition. The ride height could be spot on for a few hundred bucks too. If I was in the market, I’d be all over it, and I’d be confident you could get it down below the 50k mark. DJM and Niko

Dalai Posted 21April, 2020 Report Share Posted 21April, 2020 Love the coupe and will be the 1600 version that will be in my garage in the future. Unfortunately with the Aussie dollar currently tanked against the Yen, the above car is what a clean JDM coupe will cost landed at the moment. Niko Posted 3May, 2020 Report Share Posted 3May, 2020 That in my opinion is the better of the two door body shape. That front spoiler just doesn't look right, I've yet to see a good one. But otherwise good looking car. Nicely done . 73 model would have to be one of the last.

Not cheap at A$28k but better than this for $22k with inevitable rust and bog (always worse up close) 😲 Niko

DJM Posted 3May, 2020 Report Share Posted 3May, 2020 The whole car including a respray would cost less than the stamp duty on a 991 GT3. Kinda puts it in perspective.🤔 firstone
cjm968cs Posted 6May, 2020 Report Share Posted 6May, 2020 Not a 1600, but this my 260Z about to have some fun at a track day I use for sprints & we also go away in it. I even has AC LeeM, DJM, Niko and 1 other
DJM Posted 6May, 2020 Report Share Posted 6May, 2020 Righto, for those paying attention on the Club Permit thread, i bought a car today. Datsun 1600s were on the radar - decided it would be too expensive to buy and build unless you have @MFX skills 944s & 968s hmm thought about it but nope, a bit heavy and lacking a bit of punch for mine Clubman? Yeah awesome, had a good one, sold it because it was potentially deadly 911 hotrod - shit yeah but 150 - 200k, nope GT4, maybe one day when they get to $100k I'll have another go GT3? Meh, for some reason i didnt want a 996 or 997. A 991.2 would be cool but too fast for the road and i'd only want to spend $200k which is a while off and then the old chestnut of punting $200k on track So.......I bought an E30 with S54 & 6 speed from an E46 M3 with a whole lot of good bits stuffed in and fully Engineered. That's 8200 rpm of NA goodness on the road and fast enough to have some fun on track. The Mazda will stay for serious track stuff and i'll see where i go from there. For what i will pay for it, i'd get a half complete Datto and 2 years of frustration. And i am paying not much more than the stamp duty on a 991.2 RS. I'll bow out now because this is a Porsche forum and a Datsun thread talking about a BMW! But i thought i should give you Datsun tragics some closure! Meanwhile, anyone recommend a good BMW E30 forum? I need some wheels.....Borbets, ugh😂 This is not my car but similar. The internet tells me these are like a "modern" Datsun 1600 and the S54 swap is the holy grail for this chassis: it was Dalai, MFX, firstone and 3 others
firstone Posted 6May, 2020 Report Share Posted 6May, 2020 I wouldn't mind seeing a thread on your BMW? And the RX if you could be bothered? I'm never gunna go down these paths but it great to see you do it.

And feels a bit odd to be pumping that content into a Porsche forum where most are not interested and I don’t currently own a Porsche. How about a couple of photos....😂 BMW ~310hp at the wheels I assume around 1200kg Mazda 13B Bridgeport turbo 475hp at the wheels, around 1130kg good cheap fun Dalai and firstone

A fisherman always sees another fisherman from afar! Boosted 911s and E30s . I've also ticket the rotary box with a RX7 Series 3 with a 13b back in the day I've just bought an S54 swapped E30 and am sending my E30 Baur down to have the turbo'd m20 removed an an S54 in it also. I'm having Brintech do my Baur also, they did the E30 Coupe I've got as well as your car correct? When did you get it from them as I'd be keen to pick your brain and swap notes!
