Whats for sale (in Australia ) and interesting Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah it's a lot of fun :) The Porsche Classic radio is nice, but in hindsight it was probably money wasted as you can't really hear the radio that much, and the nav/maps isn't working for AU yet. Happy you liked it - mutual respect, I want an 996 GT3 too! (well, who doesn't really lol)

combine your TT and GT3 desires and buy a 996 GT2.  A few sitting on market a while now at admittedly silly prices.  Might be scope for a deal on one of them at something like 993TT money.

[Under offer] What does that actually mean?

Deposit paid?

PPI arranged?

Salesman trying to create an illusion that the price is market competitive and buyers are hammering on his door so if you're interested, register your interest now?

Sold?  Surely they would just say that?

Silver 79 930 @ CTS no longer 'under offer'. Must have fallen through?

So what is the adamant expert opinion today then?

  1. Dickhead buyer saying "yes" before he got approval from his finance manager/wife/mum/priest?  Did he lose his deposit?
  2. Salesman trying to create an illusion that the price is market competitive and buyers are hammering on his door so if you're interested, don't drag your feet when I put it back on the market?

More likely 1. Clearly they now look bad so I don't think they would have done this intentionally. Another possibility is that a PPI threw up issues that scared off the buyer, No doubt some investors have yet to learn that a bit of dripping oil is the norm.

CTS hit us with some facebook posts on both of their 930's today. Their online strategy is sporadic at best so suggests a little desperation maybe? On the bright side thanks to SHADY needing to be put right on the ownership of the CTS car I got a free plug on the CTS thread ;)

it's after 89 so you wouldn't be allowed to.

I suspect there are 2 things going on here. First, Duttons claim to have a reach into other markets, like SE Asia. Second, there is a much anticipated change in the law which, if stories are correct, will come in from the beginning of next year, which will allow cars to be imported with a lot more ease.

It's interesting how Duttons told me just how undesirable UK cars were and how little they wree worth, offering me $150k less for my 964RS and then kindly sharing their valuation with every known Porsche specialist - "have you been offered the red RS which we value at x because it is a dodgy UK import". Having done that, they then called me back to see if I had considered their offer which they were sure was fair and what others would pay.......

no one told you?

it is?

Isnt that tell tale drip an indication that these cars still run and that its not a polished veneer , its the only way to know really, when you take the museum/garage queen tape off em..

A bit like the Shannons TT ..if you drive just across the showroom floor the ABS/OBD lights stay on on the TT cause they dont get time to go through their diagnostic ..

Oil drips are like cars tears of joy in an air cooled , when the beast is let out of its cage

there's low balling and then there's just downright low.

Simon its just known as the island pricing model,  small town price fixing mate ..they all do it ..

Thats why they dont want your car shopped around..so they can set the price tag ;)

We are watching the top end of town the Chanel/Gucci  CTS/Dutton stores and the emergence of the Bunnings supestore ..where we all know you get ok prices ..but their aint much quality and service.

Time for the middle ground dealers to emerge perhaps , maybe we can call it "Honest Johns "

My car has been seen by one person , yet they all know about it , I have even seeded commenatry into the market just to see how far the little entanglement web runs…  Same gene pool is what I will tell ya ..they just dont disclose that they had a wild night with the others sister after saturday nights big drink session :)

I think there are a couple of these here in Oz and I am happy to give a big shout out to Rob Raymer at RSR Garage. I know a few forum members who rate him and I have to admit I was suspicious almost up to the moment we signed the deal. He delivered exactly what he said he would, giving honest advise and appraisal. I guess when you don't have the pressure of high profile  (and expensive) premises, staff overheads etc, you can deal decently with your clients. He is the only one who didn't try to lowball me, BS me or shout at me (yes, one well known dealer lost it and shouted at me for speaking to his competitors!).

Having said that, there are certain cars I would sell through the top end of town because to be fair to CTS, they do get some extraordinary prices for what are fairly common cars. They are very good at selling cars like 964 C2's for top money (as a few on here will testify).

Just know they many of them are cousins ..some of them kissing… A bit like the English royal family .. or should I say the german/greek imposters… you know the ones that secretly have BMW's and  Porsches , yet are mainly seen in public in their Landrovers and Astons..flying the Union Jack

Just to drag the thread a little sideways , I posted this on my facebook it made me laugh , it was about politics , but Im sure you could apply to the local dealer trade and more.

I told my son, “You will marry the girl I choose.”

He said, “NO!” I told him, “She is Bill Gates’ daughter.”

He said, “OK.”

I called Bill Gates and said, “I want your daughter to marry my son.”

Bill Gates said, “NO.”

I told Bill Gates, My son is the CEO of World Bank.”

Bill Gates said, “OK.”

I called the President of World Bank and asked him to make my son the CEO.

He said, “NO.”

I told him, “My son is Bill Gates’ son-in-law.”

He said, “OK.”

This is exactly it works . . .
