Yep. That's the bit that makes it an unrealistic proposition.

Do your research on Aston service costs. Guy I know (quite wealthy) got rather sizzled after getting the hots for one of those.

Edgy,

You're not going to get out of it that easily. I thought 996's were "new" too!

If you couldn't have the old Porsche that you have, what would you want? Sub $100k, can be impractical but must definitely has to be fun.

996 is a classic/old... news to me!

I would assume the reasons I couldn't own it, is for practical reasons... so I guess I should look at the car that was next in the firing order before fulfilling the 911 dream!

No idea , they don't service them down here so you have to take a couple of days off work , drive a few 100km , get on the overnight ferry , pay the Vic roads toll & speeding fines etc etc and come home again. But a 308 you can service yourself at home, even if bits are more $ than a similar era 911.

The AM bonnet is worth 7k , as the guy found out when his  sustained a minimal injury.

:o.

What vintage AM are we talking?

I was speaking to someone on the weekend whose father on law bought an Aston convertible, fulfilling a lifelong dream. But sold it after six months because it was unbearably hot. Apparently a ton of heat soak from the engine.

No Lambo or AM specialists in poor old Tassy! Or Maybach , etc.

The older AMs must be serviceable (I've seen a  couple) , albeit at a cost given their many weaknesses. Though it's possible the owners take the cars interstate for major work.

My lawyer had a DB9 (I think) V12.. Motor shit itself, he thought he might try save a quid and import a crate motor from UK, after thinking about it he decided against it and decided to go through the dealer. After all that the new crate motor also shit itself.. They had to replace it at their cost... He said something about $40k plus labour... Needless to say he got rid of it.. I've known another guy to get one in a small front end bingle and as a result run up a 6 figure repair (thankfully insured).

Those are all first hand.... Scares the hell out of me! Such a shame they are a nice machine

There's a late 70's V8 Vantage convertible near me, well i assume he drives it sometimes but i've only ever seen it at the local mechanic
